I usually attach mine vertically, which facilitates horizontal (landscape) and vertical (portrait) shots. You get used to checking the bubble out the corner of your eye as frame your shot. (When shooting waist level, I attach the level horizontally, and look at the bubbles from above.) Some DSLRs (like the Pentax K5) have built-in inclinometers, but mine doesn't, so the bubble level stays on my camera ... except it gets in the way when I store the camera in my bag. So off it comes ... and the base plate chips and cracks because it's plastic and because I attach and detach it so often. But the level is so cheap I buy a spare. I wouldn't pay more than $10 for a level. (I do realize that some expensive models are nicely made.) This one is affordable and acceptable.

I purchased this little bubble so I could level my Stanton turntable for playing my LPs, and it works perfectly, it is small so can be moved anywhere on the turntable to get a good level. It is not an expensive item so doesn't have graded markings etc but for my purpose it is fine. for the price you cant go wrong if you need a very small level bubble that can be placed in tight areas, etc.

After getting my second copy of this level I give up. Either one won't fit my Canon Rebel XT Or Sigma DP2 Merrill. The manufacturing tolerances are not controlled well enough. Both simply were way too tight to fit. I suppose if one wants to jam it in it will fit, but then you'll damage the camera or have an insanely hard time getting it out. I won't attempt something like that.

I wanted an inexpensive bubble level to mount in the hot shoe of my 5d Mark 2. First off, it works as advertised and allows me to level my shots against gravity on a tripod. It's not the snuggest fit, though, and I find it falling out of my camera. I've been able to recover it every time it's dropped off, but I have to pay pretty close attention.

I would give 1 star, but decided on 2 since this seems to be well made. The only problem is that it doesn't actually help with composing shots. It works fine, but the actual fluid containers don't seem to be *exactly* aligned with the hot shoe. So, the bubble is centered, but the camera is definitely not level.

I purchased this to use as a quick reference in composing landscape and architectural images...because these subjects are a considerable distance away, any minor imperfections in leveling the camera become obvious in the image. I would return it, but it's so inexpensive I suppose I'll just hold on to it.

My advice, just look through the viewfinder and compose the image the old fashioned way. That should get you close enough, and any additional leveling can be taken care of in your favorite post processing software.

Maybe there is a reason the Manfrotto version is so much more expensive...

This review is for the Opteka Hot Shoe Two Axis Double Bubble Spirit Level for Digital and Film Cameras. This is a perfect little accessory that I was looking for to level my camera when shooting panoramas. My Nikon D300 does not the electronic bubble level as found in the D3, so I had to rely to a device like this to help. Needless to say, for the price, this is awesome. Fits my D300 hot shoe perfectly and it is a snug fit. The device does not move at all no matter what position the camera is in. Also, this looks and feels like the corresponding Manfrotto bubble level, but costs less than half! I would recommend to anyone who plans to shoot panoramas or wants to do a little video using their D-SLR.

I purchased this to assist with tripod-based landscape photography. For this goal of helping straighten the photos it works well. It has two hot shoe mounts for both orientations of the camera, which is useful for the occasional vertical-oriented landscape. Also, slowing down the photo taking process is good for photo composition.

However, I must rate the product down slightly because it unfortunately is a little loose on my camera's hot shoe. On the tripod, there isn't an issue. But when the camera's being transported in the bag, this level will frequently slip off when I don't want it to. If I need a second level, I may go looking for other products, but for now, this seems well constructed and not likely to break.

The fore/aft bubble on the one I received shows the bubble significantly crossing one of the two lines to the exact same extent, no matter which way the unit is turned on a level surface. It's gotta be off by several degrees. Maybe some examples are accurate, but mine sure wasn't, so don't buy this unless you just want to roll the dice.
