Customers find the soap dish works well and appreciate how it keeps bars from getting mushy and soggy. The design receives mixed feedback - while some like its appearance, others find it unattractive. The product's durability is also mixed, with some praising its sturdy construction while others report it breaking. Moreover, the sink stability and size get mixed reviews - while it keeps items in place and fits large bars well, it tends to slide around and takes up sink space. Additionally, the plastic content receives criticism for being very plain and extremely thin.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2013A while back I bought this wonderful moisturizer in cake form, Malie Organics Body Butter Bun, Mango 7.5 oz (240 ml), that is meant to be applied in the shower (it contains no cleansing agent, just mango butter, cocoa butter, vit E, and Tumeric). As thrilled as I was with the idea of the product, I had never used it because I was afraid that leaving it in a soap dish in the shower would allow it to just melt away into a soggy scum cake. Feeling wasteful over the thought that this wonderfully exotic and novel product was likely just spoiling in my drawer, I decided to hunt The Marketplace for a solution.
I came upon this other product, Idea Works Waterfall Soap Saver, which appeared to be a brilliant solution for my moisture-cake woe. Then I noticed 60 reviews with less than 3 stars. Upon reading many of those critical reviews, I was relieved to find that many of the complaints pertained to the material, plastic. Apparently several of the reviewers felt duped because they had each expected to receive a porcelain dish rather than a plastic one. While it is disappointing to receive a product that doesn't meet one's expectations, I think it is unreasonable to discredit the product or manufacturer for not meeting unfounded expectations. The product description does, after all, say, "Built in plastic prongs hold soap in place." One can see from the photo that the dish is one cast piece; so if the prongs are plastic, then the dish is plastic. Further, at this price point, can one really expect higher grade materials?
Upon further inspection of those critical reviews of the other (similar) product, I found several complaints that unlike the product in the photo, the item received did not sit at an angle. IMO this was a reasonable expectation that was not met. Further, the complaints of this nature (i.e. the valid ones) seemed to be more recent than many of the more glowing reviews, indicating a possible recent change in the product. Therefore, I took heed of those critical reviews and kept searching, very disappointed that I couldn't have the slanted type of dish for my pricey-and-about-to-be-slimy little moisture cake. Yet I persevered on my quest for the ideal scum prevention device.
Eureka! I found this Miles Kimball product that is nearly identical to the aforementioned ideal-in-image-only dish! Low and behold, the one reviewer who'd posted just a few months ago stated explicitly that she had replaced her old one with this and was pleased to find it to be an exact replica. Upon a quick perusal of her other reviews, I learned that she certainly pays attention to detail and enjoys practical products that simplify her life (as she'd reviewed a book on Toilet Paper Origami on a Roll and a Lazy Susan for her spices). This was someone I could trust. After a quick, "Yes," click regarding the utility of her review, I tossed one in my cart. I then added InterDesign Soap Saver, Clear for good measure, intending to use the two in conjunction to really elevate my pricey little lipid bar far and above any potentially destructive pooling.
When the item arrived, I was delighted to find that the dish articulates on its suction cup base, by way of an easily adjustable hinge. Since I was neither expecting the suction cup (yipee!) or the ability to change the angle of the dish to suit my space or my scum-cake (er . . . I mean moisturizing bar). This dish is perfect for my application, and has actually exceeded my expectations.
I placed the soap saver onto this dish, added my mango butter cake, and placed the entire thing on the back shelf in my shower, angling the spout over the shelf's edge. Voila! The entire contraption stays put with its self suction cup and stays dry as a bone. And, if you have an item particularly sensitive to puddles, I highly recommend pairing these two soap-saving scum-busting dishes.
One caveat I should add, though, is that the bulky size of this dish coupled with its lightweight construction might be an issue in a smaller space near a sink. The suction cup is strong enough to hold my dish in place, but I rarely bump it. Perhaps if it was in a place that would subject it to frequent jarring, it would tip over or fall into the sink. I have not tested this because I am so pleased with the product's utility for my purpose and am unwilling to forfeit its current placement if even for a day. At this price point, it is definitely worth a trial, even if you do expect to used it in the tight confines of a small bathroom sink, because if it works it will make you so happy. And, if it doesn't, you can move it into your tub or shower where it may be bumped around less.
Aside: BTW, I'm just kidding around about the scum-bar stuff; I'm actually in love with the Malie product, too, despite its price tag. I had started to see some fine lines on my neck and decolletage that completely resolved after only a week of daily mango bar in the shower. Efficacious and convenient as long as properly stored.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2010The Waterfall Soap Savers are quite nifty solutions to the yucky problem of gooshy, slimed-out bars of soap on the side of the sink or in the shower. They keep your bar soap high-and-dry ~ literally ~ and make it last longer because there's no more waste from the soap resting in the unavoidablely moist cradle of conventional soap dishes. I purchased four of these items based on the positive reviews, and I'm not disappointed. As others have noted, the units ARE large, but that's a positive for me. They really hold a big bar of soap, and are stable and steady. Keep in mind that they are plastic, heavy-duty, but they could still crack/break if dropped. Two of my four actually arrived damaged ~ one was cracked and the other had completely severed from its base. The other two are just fine. Amazon courteously and quickly refunded the amount for the damaged items, and I will re-order to get replacements, and most likely add a couple more to the order.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2016I purchased this for the bathroom at my work. We work with all sorts of oil, greases and things of that sort. So it's commonplace to have gunky hands. For whatever reason, we keep purchasing bars of Lava soap, instead of the pump bottle. This bar soap has always been kept in a traditional soap dish, which quickly fills up with water, leaving the bar of soap an awful mess. It takes an act of congress for someone to simply pour out the water. Call me crazy, I prefer to wash my hands without digging around for soap in a cesspool of grimy, oily water.
So I decided to get this for the men's room, and it has been a pleasant surprise. After reading some of the previous reviews, I wasn't sure I would be receiving a product worth a nickel, much less what I paid for it. However, there must be two different suppliers, because the product I received is of really good quality. The item is weighted well, so it doesn't simply tip over. It also has a good angle to it, allowing for the excess water to run off. This seems to have been an issue with some of the previous purchases/reviews.
Overall, this is decent product which does exactly what I wanted it to do.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2012This soap dish obviously does an excellent job of keeping stagnant water away from your soap, but for me it actually provides another advantage. I use it in the shower, because in the shower I like the soap to be wet enough to lather up soon after I get in the shower, but not so wet that the soap disolves after several days of showers. In my shower, like most, there is a soap rack on the wall, but so much water hits it, that the soap disolves completely after maybe a dozen showers. So I needed a soap dish to put out of the direct stream of my shower head. Other types of soap dish are pretty useless for this purpose, as they fill with water quickly. This dish is perfect. It gives me soap at the right consistency, and keeps my shower free of copious soap deposits.
For those who are style concious, it does look a little institutional (bland, white plastic), but the function is undeniable. I'd recommend it to anyone who is tired of gross soap dish muck.
