These have been a LIFE SAVER for my classroom! I used them to record directions for my students (they are in Kindergarten) for independent centers. The students stay on task and it's wonderful! I love the longer record time too! Very easy for my students to use.

I work with special education students who have limited verbal abilities. I use these buttons as small message buttons where students can request items. It's also very good at providing a verbal prompt for those students who can, do but seem to need to continuious permission. I like the clear sound and durability of the product. It has pretty decent message capacity and I can record a short sentence of three to four word lengths. It is appropximately the size of an adult palm and my students have a tendency to want to pick it up instead of pressing on it. It is has a clear plastic casing which is good for sandwiching photos on the inside cover. It's a very nice product. After a year of usage one of the black failed and changing the batteries won't do anything(4 out of 5). It might have been tossed around a little too much.
I bought this back when these block were selling for 47. When I saw you first had raised the price I was rather annoyed. It was a good product for $47, but I was disappointed to see the price jumped like that. Please don't tell me you guys did it because of the special education niche. It doesn't make sense to raise the price of a product because people found an original the manaufacturer didn't fosee. It's a little disheartening to see how expensive special education products are in comparison to general education products. I can understand a niche market, but is there a niche markup? At least now you guys seems to be going back down again.

One block was defect upon arrival. The other 4 work... I think. They do record and play back, but when you turn them off (or remove the batteries) you lose the recording (I believe this is called "volatile memory"). It's not so useful if you have to re-record every time you turn them on or replace the batteries. Also not very useful if you have to leave them on all day and night (draining the batteries) just to maintain the recording. I still don't know if this is a defect or a "feature" but will be contacting the seller soon to find out. In the meantime, buyer beware.

Love that these switches hold pictures and are large enough that they are easily activated. The pressure sensitivity for activation can not be adjusted which is one difficulty that the little guy I am working with is having. Another design flaw is that when the switch is turned off for more than 10 min. ( as recommended to save battery) the recorded message is erased. The option of having these switches as far apart as needed is great and the ability to have them throughout the environment helps to increase communication for specific purposes within the environment. They do not come with mounts so something needs to be invented/rigged to fit your needs (btw good luck convincing anyone to put industrial strength Velcro on their kitchen cupboards :), creativity is often needed to mount these but still have the ability to acsess the recording feature....All in all even with the limitations these have been a great alternative to using a bulky or expensive devise that would need to be moved by an adult to allow access, pictures that are mouthed or to difficult for children with fine motor difficulties/ tactile difficulties to manipulate, and those alternatives that don't give Immediate auditory feed back as a potential model for verbal imitation.

From the moment I first saw Talk Blocks by Learning Resources I knew the possibilities for using them with young children were endless. I came up with several ideas for using Talk Blocks in classrooms with young children (preschool-kindergarten) focusing on skills such as letter/sound association, motivation and engagement, and even interactive writing. These little technology tools are tons of fun and can be used in many different ways to enhance instruction in the classroom. They are so simple and easy to use anybody can use them with the touch of one button, even if you're not a tech whiz.
