Cmple cable crappy
Watch for the seller's name when you're buying these cables. I bought these 3-foot optical digital cables from Cmple, and a longer one a few days ago that came from Eforcity. It seems that those two brands and a couple of others come up randomly as sellers for this and similar items. Well, my Eforcity cable is good quality, has the gold ends and snug plugs that click in, and looks like the picture in the listing. The ones from Cmple are thin, no gold ends, no click. They look completely different. I posted a picture above in "User Pictures." They do work, but for how long is the question.

I can't say enough about how pleased I am with this product.
I have been using standard analog hookups for my HD dvd player's Dolby Digital and DTS sound until I received this item. The cable is just like the seller describes on this Amazon page...3 foot fiber optic sound cable.
And well, I plugged it into my HD DVD player and into my DTS Receiver--the set up was instant. ONE CABLE for all 7 channels and when I plugged the first end into the HD player, the other end of the cable LIT UP with a little red light so it was easy to see where to hook up the other end in the receiver. The optical sound is its own flashlight basically--and as soon as both ends were plugged in, instantly, I had to turn the sound from my original settings at 10 decibels to 3 decibels, because the optic sound was blasting out my speakers. The cable itself is 3 feet long and about 1/2 inch thick, and it comes with the optical tips covered by a sturdy plastic cup guarding the tips till you can hook them up. The cable itself is strong enough to withstand long-term use unless you have children pulling out your cables constantly. But from what I have seen, I feel it will maintain for years to come.
Seriously, it is TRULY an AUDIBLE MIRACLE from standard connections. For a mere $4 dollars(shipping included, it was the best money I ever spent! I have never heard such GREAT sound before!!!I highly recommend this! In fact, I love it so much I sat right down and wrote this review not one minute after hooking it up!!!

OK, you have been shopping for cables to finish off your new home theater system and time after time a salesperson tells you about MONSTER cables. Well, when it comes to HDMI or Red/Blue/Green component cables, getting something nice with gold fittings is the way to go but spending big bucks to buy the MONSTER brand name is way over rated. Search our some similar but way cheaper cables on Amazon.com. Now regarding these optical cables. Brand means nothing. Transferring a light signal is transferring a light signal. A gold fitting means squat. As long as the optical cable you buy delivers the light signal from a cable box to your TV or audio system, you good to go. Example, I purchased a MONSTER Cable on sale for $38 bucks before I saw this cable on Amazon.com. Glad Circuit City has a 30 return policy with receipt because I sure used it. Once my less then less than a buck optical cable arrived and I saw that it delivered a light signal just like the MONSTER cable with the MONSTER price did, I returned that overpriced cable faster than you can say jack rabbit. When installing your optical cable, look close at the shape of the fitting and the shape of the whole it goes in. Kinda trick to make sure you are placing it in correctly and push it in snug. Do not jam it in without lining up which side is up. Also, do not crimp the cable. You are dealing with fiber optics here so keep the cord from bending at a sharp able to keep your light passageway from getting blocked. ENJOY AND SAVE BIG BUCKS.

I use this in my A/V setup at home. My receiver doesn't split HDMI video and audio - it only works as a pass-through. This doesn't work for me because I have a projector instead of a TV, so all of my audio has to come from a source other than the HDMI ports. I use a combination of optical and coax, depending on the output source. I have this cable somewhere in the system (and have used it on multiple output devices) and it has never given me any problems. Audio is great (Onkyo 7.1 receiver w/Onkyo speakers) and the cable has worked well for several years on this setup. I recommend it.

The cable is great. Everything seems to be working perfectly. I was a little discourage to spend more $$ to buy yet another cable to hook up all the things that came with the new flat screen TV. But I refused to pay the $50 for the one I found in the store was willing to gamble on the $3 with shipping on this one. Once I realized there was a cap on the end of the cable everything worked great. I didn't come with any instructions or pictures and I didn't look at the expensive cable that closely before I tried to hook up and I began to think it wasn't going to fit. The cable we received did not have a cap with a holder on it like the one in the picture does now. But I am thrilled that it is working.

This cable does the trick. It sends the digital signal and does so just fine-what else do you want from a cable of this sort?

It is a little thin, so if you'll be running it over or if you have pets/children who like to chew on your cables it may not be the best choice for you. However, as a general rule, optical cables should not be taking any abuse and if that's the case in your house as it is in mine (despite the small children, the dog, the cats, the other mayhem) I can't think of a reason to buy a more expensive tool to accomplish the exact same job.

Obviously you should never pay for a Monster cable because the price is so high. However, I should have sprung for a bit more expensive cable.

The cable in the picture looks quality and thick, what arrived can only be described as thin and flimsy. See user picture posted by other reviewer for what arrives.

While the cable works, I'm afraid I'm getting too much interference from the lack of shielding and get a lot of electrical noise from the cable. I was unsure if the noise was coming from the Optical to Analog converter I bought with it, however after trying a thicker cable I had laying around (with bad connections that wouldn't stay in the device which is why I purchased this) the sound was much better.

It gets the job done, but if you have a lot of wires behind your setup, keep this cable separate from those and as far away as possible to avoid interference.

    Bottom line:
need a cheap cable to get the job done - Buy it.
need a good cable with better shielding - spend a few $ more and get a different cable.
