This detector gives my minelab equinox a run for its money. Sure it doesn't go as deep, or provide a display telling you what you might be looking at. But it more than makes up for it in ease of use, and ease of learning. My friend took this thing out and found coins all over the place, and he learned quick enough to identify targets by the tone. Frequently he would be digging coins at a rate much faster than me. In fairness, I"m still learning the minelab, but this little detector is absolutely amazing. And its an excellent learning machine, PLUS it detects gold like a hound dog finds raccoons. I wouldn't buy any other machine for a beginner to learn on. It finds things, and that's what it's all about. Plus its lite weight and simplicity makes it a lot of fun to use. Get one, the price is so low you will not find another detector that can do what this does for anywhere near the money. I speak from years of experience detecting with many brands. It's not a toy, it's capable of finding real gold, and real coins. If you're new to detecting get this one and you will never be sorry when you upgrade. Or just keep it for the kids or the beach or park..
Side note: We were detecting a yard where a family of 11 kids lived and played and they lost money all over the place. The ground is terrible with rocks and trash too. Hard to dig, but it still delivered the goods and lots of fun. ...

Wow! Bang for my buck.
I am happy with this machine.I bought this detector for gold prospecting a seasonal crick in the Mother Lode, Northern California. I was unable to find any of the gold I was looking for, my spot was a bust, but I ended up detecting an old cabin site instead. I found a bunch of coins, and one is a 1943 Silver Mercury dime! This cabin burned down years ago, and the area I searched had thousands of various pieces of scrap aluminum, steel, copper and everything else. This machine had a serious challenge, right off the bat.The discrimination capability is phenomenal. There was metal scrap of all different sizes and weights and 95% of it was discriminated by the machine. I did not expect that feature to work so well, and I am impressed.I’m a coin collector, and I was able to test the unit before I took it out. I will say that mine will only detect 4” at a max for coins, and that might be pushing it a little. I did not expect a professional rig, but I had hoped for a bit more depth.All in all I am very impressed with what the detector dies for the money I spent. The Mercury dime could be graded as ‘extremely fine’, and being an S minted coin, with full bands, it might be worth enough to pay for the detector once it is clean.Shout out to Bounty Hunter for being an American company and producing such fine equipment at such a reasonable price.

So far we've combed a lake beach under 3 inches of snow using a bread sack closed with a twist tie over the detector, small portions of our yard and the ditch along our street. Even when we just end up finding a rusty nail, hearing that beep and digging our way towards a mystery object is quite fun and a bit addictive. My mind is already searching for other locations to check.
As far as comfort and ease of use I'd rate high. Its lightweight and while my son did say his arm began to hurt after awhile, it was just fine for me. The arm brace eliminates wrist strain. The extendable body has quite a range and adjusts well for adults or kids.
I typically don't write reviews until I've had something for awhile, but I haven't had this much fun with something I bought online for quite awhile. It may not do anything fancy like decipher between types of metals with precision but, for a 10 year old, I consider it a great buy. When asking my son to stay out a little longer today to hunt for treasure he said, "Mom, you're acting like more of a kid than me." I reminded him there is no age limit on this device!

I purchased this for my 10 year old, treasure seeking son for Christmas. Due to our lack of more than a few inches of snow this year we were able to get it outside the day after Christmas. Easy to use, basic and there is no question when it finds something it likes. It's taken us to a depth of about 8 inches beneath packed soil so far with no trouble. That particular find was a disinigrating metal bucket. None of our finds have been lucrative, but curious nonetheless and it's gotten my son and I out in the cold 3 times in the 5 days he's had it.
