Verbatim Keyboards
Like all technology, keyboards have continued to evolve and adapt as user’s needs and wants have changed. If you’re still using the keyboard that came with your computer, you may not be getting the best experience possible. Before buying a new keyboard, it’s important to understand your own specific needs. Is a lack of cables important to you? Would you rather have specific function keys? Do you perform a lot of calculations, making a numeric keypad a necessity? With virtually thousands of options, buying a new keyboard can be a confusing process. But there are several things you should definitely consider as you make your decision.
Corded vs. Wireless vs. Bluetooth
Corded
Traditionally, keyboards have had a cable that connects the keyboard to the computer using a USB port, hence a corded keyboard, and using a corded keyboard has its advantages. Being connected means you’re free from lag and interference issues, and you don’t have to worry about changing batteries or charging your keyboard, as the keyboard draws power from the computer. However, you are limited by how long the cord is, and the extra clutter of a cable may bother you. If your computer has limited USB ports, using one for a keyboard may be a concern, and you may want to consider a wireless option.
Wireless
Wireless keyboards are either receiver-based or Bluetooth-based. Receiver-based keyboards connect to the computer via a nano receiver that plugs into a USB port. Without cords, you are free to position the keyboard where it is comfortable for you. Typically, wireless keyboards operate on a 2.4GHz connection, meaning there is virtually no lag. However, if you need to be completely lag-free, e.g. you’re a serious gamer, you may want to consider a corded keyboard to eliminate lag altogether. There is also the chance for interference, as many other devices operate on a 2.4GHz connection. Another consideration is battery life; as wireless keyboards don’t pull power from the computer, they either use batteries, which must be replaced, or the keyboard itself must be recharged.
Bluetooth
Bluetooth keyboards connect to your computer or other device via a Bluetooth connection. You can also use them with other Bluetooth-capable devices such as some smartphones and tablets. Using this connection means they don’t tie up a USB port, which may be an important factor for you. Bluetooth keyboards also have the advantage of mobility – with ranges up to 30 ft. you are not limited to direct proximity to your device. However, as with standard wireless keyboards, lag can be a concern – especially at greater distances.
More to Consider
Comfort
Keyboards, next to displays and mice, are the most used parts of your computer. Your hands go to it every time you sit down and it’s probably the last thing you touch. And using a poorly designed keyboard can lead to pain and joint inflammation. Several features can make keyboards more comfortable. Wrist rests can help cushion your wrists as you type. Slim, low profile keyboards and keyboards with adjustable tilt and height can help keep your wrists in a more natural alignment. Or, if you need them, full ergonomic keyboards are also available.
Size
Full-Size
A full-size keyboard will generally give you more functions, such as a full numeric keypad perfect for calculations, or additional features like brightness and volume controls and full-size function keys. Full-size keyboards can also be more comfortable to use, as they allow for more natural hand and wrist alignment while typing and have the size to accommodate more ergonomic features.
Mobile
If you’re an avid smartphone and/or tablet user, choosing a keyboard that’s compatible with your mobile devices may be important to you. Mobile keyboards can take your device from leisure to work, as answering emails and editing documents on your mobile device becomes as easy as working on your computer. Most mobile keyboards work via a Bluetooth connection so they will require charging or replacement. These keyboards are also generally smaller and more portable so you may not have all the functionality of a full-size keyboard. But, if working on the go is important to you, buying a keyboard that is mobile-compatible may be the answer.
Additional Features
Music Controls
If you listen to music while using your keyboard, selecting a model with music and media controls may be important to you. Having the ability to play, pause, skip tracks, and adjust volume directly from the keyboard means you can virtually control your music without ever leaving the screen you’re working on.
Smart Function Keys
Some more advanced keyboards now have Smart Function keys, either as separate keys or as a function of another key. Every keyboard will vary in this aspect, but some of the more common smart functions include: adjusting the brightness, cut/copy/paste, and search.

Awesome accessory for my iPad

- Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2012Color: BlackVerified PurchaseAt every step of the way while opening the package, I was impressed with what they had done. It told me loud and clear that the company that manufactured this keyboard really cared about their product and wanted to ensure it came to you perfectly. It was packaged in a clam-shell plastic container within a very sturdy box -- it can absolutely withstand a lot of abuse before the keyboard would be damaged. The keyboard itself was held in a molded part of the plastic shell with small foam/rubber inserts at all four corners. They then also provided 2 AAA batteries to get you started -- and they didn't go cheap, they provided Energizer batteries.
On top of the packaging itself, the keyboard has 4 rubber feet, it folds up into a small sealed position, and they even included a leather case. I just keep thinking to myself, "They didn't have to do that." But they did, and the only reason I can think of is because they wanted to make sure to the best of their abilities that the product came to you and continued to work for you in pristine working condition.
All of that made me very happy right off the bat and assuaged any doubt I may have had about going with a different keyboard.
After a bunch of research, I decided to go with this particular keyboard because it has a locking mechanism that will allow you to comfortably work on an uneven surface, like your lap. That feature does work as expected.
Pairing with my Nexus 7 was easy. I turned on the keyboard, took a pen to start up pairing on the keyboard, enabled bluetooth on my tablet, got into the settings and clicked on the keyboard, was given a code, entered and code on the keyboard, hit enter... and... voila. It worked.
At this point, I have used it only for a quick test and it went well. Yes, I had a bunch of typos, but I think after some use I'll get used to the keyboard and stop making those typos. I find whenever I start using a new keyboard layout that I get frustrated at first, and then after a bit of time my "hands" just remember everything and I can use the new keyboard effortlessly.
I noted that the keyboard has no lights to indicate it is on, but it will start blinking an indicator if the batteries are running low. I like this, I won't have a light to drain batteries or glare in my eyes.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2011Color: BlackVerified PurchaseI bought this keyboard to use with a Samsung Infuse, Android 2.2 (Froyo) phone. Although it's not a tablet, the Infuse is big enough to do some word processing on, and I was looking for something to keep me from having to lug around my laptop. This keyboard fills the bill for that. The keyboard was made to be used with an iPhone or iMac and has lots of extra keys (Fn, Menu, Alt, Ctrl, Del) that probably work seamlessly with iO/S. I've found that most of them do nothing with Android. I think the stowable kickstand for my phone is a great feature and this drove me to overlook a bunch of the keyboards minor pains. Buying a bluetooth nano mouse (also by Verbatim but that was purely chance) to use in tandem with the keyboard took away a lot more of the pain.
What works:
1. Qwerty keyboard: Great for writing emails, words docs in QuickOffice and filling in text fields, passwords, etc. on web pages. I agree with several folks that the split space bar and off-kilter numbers row are a pain, but if you have patience they'll work out. I definitely can't match my usual typing speed of 100+ WPM with this keyboard.
2. Arrow keys: will let you navigate the desktop, web pages (I use the Dolphin browser - don't know how it works with the others), email (and pretty much all) lists. I found out by accident that the Esc button acts as the Previous Screen key to back you out of an application one step at a time.
3. Volume Up/Down keys. Work with phone calls, music player and video player.
4. Caps Lock key. Not so much on the desktop, but works fine in the browser and QuickOffice.
What doesn't work:
1. Tab key.
2. Next/Previous track or audio start/stop buttons.
3. ENTER key. This works in a few places, like if you need a carriage return when typing text in QuickOffice, but it falls down as a "Left Click" when navigating the desktop. I got a bluetooth travel mouse that is much better at navigating the desktop than the arrow keys, so this isn't such a pain - just click the mouse. But if you plan on using the keyboard as your only input device you're going to find yourself poking a finger at the screen A LOT while it's on the kickstand.
4. Next/Previous track, Play/Pause and Stop buttons. If you plan on using it with an audio player, as I do mine, ditto re poking the screen (or using the mouse).
5. A button on the top row has a picture of a keyboard on it. I'm assuming that it does something in iO/S but it does nothing with Android.
6. There is no way to access the four buttons at the bottom of my phone (Menu, Home, Back & Search) without poking a finger at them.
7. There's no way to pull down the taskbar shade with either keyboard or a mouse.
8. (added Jan 2012) The keyboard tends to lose it's bluetooth lock if nothing is done with it for only 5 or so minutes. I've noticed that if I get absorbed reading a web page using a mouse to navigate through the page, I'll usually have to re-sync the keyboard with my phone. This is not difficult, it just involves cycling the on/off slider on the keyboard, but it's a pain.
The leatherette wallet that comes with the keyboard is nice. It could have been better designed with maybe a belt clip and room for the mouse I had to buy. I've since replaced it with a zipper case that Amazon sells under their own brand that has room for the folded keyboard (sans leatherette case), a mouse, charger, cable and a couple AAA batts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vebatim Wireless Bluetooth Folding Keyboard
Color: BlackVerified PurchaseThis is my first typing using the Verbatim Wireless Bluetooth Folding keyboard. It appears to be fine and relatively error free. However, my typing in general is with visualising the board and I am not a touch typist.
I find that the keyboard keys are responsive and not much different from my Dell laptop keys. The stand provided will not support the iPad Air but supports my Samsung Galaxy Note [2011]. The pairing with my iPad Air was almost instantaneous.
The spacing of the keys except G, H, V and B are standard; the 4 exceptions are due to the keyboard folding and is not of major worry for me.
I would recommend this with 5 stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Keyboard foldability - Great. Build quality - Very good
Color: BlackVerified PurchaseKeyboard foldability - Great. Build quality - Very good. Spacing of keys - not so great. Sensitivity of keys - Sometimes have to press harder than usual for it to work, especially the Space key. No Shift key on right hand side is a pain. Del key should have been given.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bon produit, pas plus
