    Most banjo players agree that the ideal bluegrass banjo was the flathead built in very limited quantities during the 1930's. To meet this demand and to offer it at a price any player could afford, Saga Musical Instruments introduced the original GF-100 banjo in the early 1970's. Ever since these banjos were discontinued in the late 1980's due to costly maufacturing methods in Japan, they have continued to be topics of discussion for their legendary sound and value. It's 2005 and the new Gold Star GF-100W (Wreath)is back and better than ever before. Each instrument has that same great tone that banjos players like Tom Adams are looking for.

      I just received this banjo today and it is a fantastic looking instrument. I haven't had time to set it up, but feel it will sound great. My concern (and the reason for only three stars) is that this item arrived in a huge Amazon box with just the banjo and hard case. There is no other documentation, manufacturer info/warranty or anything, and I can't find a way to contact Amazon about this issue. If I find the documentation (owners manual or something) I will revisit the three star review. I am looking forward to trying it here in the next few days.

      This is a awesome banjo to say the least! You will need to have it professionally set up though. Mine sounded horrible when it arrived but after having it set up; sounded amazing. If you intend on putting a strap on this banjo and storing it in the included case...good luck. The case is super nice but is very tight fitting and isn't enough room for the strap. One more good thing and that is the company supports their products! My banjo's resonator was damaged in shipping. I contacted Saga Music Company and they sent me a new resonator to replace the damaged one cost free, shipping and all. That says a lot about this company! The banjo will exceed your expectations with a good set up and others will wonder why they spent so much on their fancy name brand banjos. This is a poor man's Gibson for sure!
