Makes great baby food

Makes great baby food
These are the best for making food for your baby. They are very moist and consistent. It's to find organic, and sometimes I find other bands to be dry. I will be buying these over and over again. Put a whole bag in a food processor and gradually add one cup very hot water while pulsing. Scrape sides with spatula and then let it run on high a few minutes. It will make just over two cups of delicious thick prune paste. Splash in some hot water to your desired texture when serving, and there is no need to deal with reheating.

Great quality product and perfect for people that want to hydrate the prunes in water or eat them with a spoon as they are. If you are looking for a dry prune that is harder and easier to make into smaller pieces for trail mix this is not great for that.

A great product and a terrific value. For the past several years, my wife and I have been buying the Mariani dried pitted plums at Sam's club which we thought was a good value. Generally a 40 ounce bag of these dried fruits would cost less than $8. The taste was good and the bag sealed nicely to be stored in the refrigerator. But you must know that after a couple of days in the refrigerator, the prunes lost most of their moistness and even some of its flavor. Now looking at the package, trying to understand why this was happening I noticed two things. First these prunes contain sunflower oil (not healthy) and secondly, potassium sorbet (a very unhealthy additive). In addition, the package also states that the bag may also contain milk, wheat and soy (problematic). Now, comparing the Newman's Own Organic Prunes, I first must say WOW! These prunes taste fantastic, to me, literally bursting with fresh moist flavor. Real prune flavor. Secondly, when storing the unused portion in the refrigerator, the prunes, without any preservatives, stay incredibly moist, losing none of their flavor. Third, you get the added benefit of the product being organic which means NO added anything which means no GMOs, no pesticides, no herbicides, no wheat, no soy, chemicals, just pure goodness, super sweet (naturally sweet with no added sugar) prunes which makes this product, in my opinion, one of the greatest ever snacks. I have also found with these prunes, that only four a day, keeps me wonderfully regular. Only one minor complaint: (and this is really minor and does not in any way mean that it should detract from its 5-star rating) the bag seals easily enough, but opening the bag after sealing can be difficult requiring some noticeable effort. And elderly person, who has arthritis in the joints, may have a difficult time re-opening one of these bags. Now as far as value goes, the Mariani Prunes at Sam's Club net down to about half the price, and you only have to buy one 40 ounce bag. But these Newman's prunes are such high quality and so much healthier than the Mariani, it is more than worth the price, so much so, that I will not buy the Mariani prunes no matter how much cheaper it is.

UPDATE April 3, 2018. Wow! About a week ago, I opened a new pouch from my most recent purchase. Let me tell you, hard as it is to imagine, that these prunes were moister and tastier than ever before. It seems to me that this newest batch is just exploding with flavor. And in addition, refrigeration has no negative effect on these prunes. After eating a few, just seal them up in the high quality zip seal pouch and when you go to eat more, day after day, these wonderful prunes retain all of their moistness except now,... they are deliciously chilled ... and, to me, taste even better. So now my favorite organic product is even more perfect than before. Love love love these prunes. Thank you Paul Newman:)

Newman's own Organics California Prunes (dried plums) are the best tasting prunes I've ever had.

Prunes are well known for their ability to prevent constipation. In addition to providing bulk and decreasing the transit time of fecal matter, thus decreasing the risk of colon cancer and hemorrhoids, prunes' insoluble fiber also provides food for the "friendly" bacteria in the large intestine. When these helpful bacteria ferment prunes' insoluble fiber, they produce a short-chain fatty acid called butyric acid, which serves as the primary fuel for the cells of the large intestine and helps maintain a healthy colon. These helpful bacteria also create two other short-chain fatty acids, propionic and acetic acid, which are used as fuel by the cells of the liver and muscles.

The propionic acid produced from prunes' insoluble fiber may also be partly responsible for the cholesterol-lowering properties of fiber. In animal studies, propionic acid has been shown to inhibit HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme involved in the production of cholesterol by the liver. By lowering the activity of this enzyme, propionic acid helps lower blood cholesterol levels.

In addition, prunes' soluble fibers help to lower cholesterol by binding to bile acids and removing them from the body via the feces. Bile acids are compounds used to digest fat that are manufactured by the liver from cholesterol. When they are excreted along with prunes' fiber, the liver must manufacture new bile acids and uses up more cholesterol, thus lowering the amount of cholesterol in circulation. Soluble fiber may also reduce the amount of cholesterol manufactured by the liver.

A study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine confirms that eating high fiber foods, such as prunes, helps prevent heart disease. Almost 10,000 American adults participated in this study and were followed for 19 years. People eating the most fiber, 21 grams per day, had 12% less coronary heart disease (CHD) and 11% less cardiovascular disease (CVD) compared to those eating the least, 5 grams daily. Those eating the most water-soluble dietary fiber fared even better with a 15% reduction in risk of CHD and a 10% risk reduction in CVD.
Lastly, the insoluble fiber provided by prunes feed friendly bacteria in the digestive tract, which helps to maintain larger populations of friendly bacteria. In addition to producing the helpful short-chain fatty acids described above, friendly bacteria play an important protective role by crowding out pathogenic (disease-causing) bacteria and preventing them from surviving in the intestinal tract.

I have been eating these for years.
My local grocery store stopped carrying them.
I have tried many other kinds of prunes, but these are by far the best.
They taste like you are eating a bit of sunshine.
    Soft and moist.
Almost all other prunes I have tried are hard, dry, and tough.
I hope Newman's keeps making these for a long time.

Well the 6 pack of 12oz went away for awhile and I ordered the 12 of 6 oz. Well, today the price on both went crazy. The 6 pack of 12oz is now 54.97. On Soap.com it is 30.90 and that is with free shipping. I am getting 12 pack of 12 oz on soap.com.

I would have let Amazon know, but could not find contact method.

    Original review (was 5 star):

These prunes travel easy (both on the road and through the stomach) and they help keep my bones strong according to some research. The unopened packages don't need to be in the refrigerator. The opened package I keep in the refrigerator or the cooler when I travel. I put 10 in a jaw and add water to about 2 inches above the prunes. Then I put that in the refrigerator. In the morning I eat the hydrated prunes drink the prune water and fill the jar again. Tasty. Healthy according the research. "Regular" all the way.

While regularity is not an issue for me, it is for some in my household. These seem to do the trick. Potential accessories could include grab handles to mount near the toilet and/or a bidet seat. Good luck!
