Received a cheap imitation

Received a cheap imitation
I'm really disappointed, because the product that I received is nothing like the item pictured and described on the website. I think this seller (Winning Costumes LLC) is definitely pulling a bait-and-switch move on people that order. They're either using product photos and a description that are either outdated, or portray an entirely different product. The collar (aside from being a completely different style) lacks the colored trim/piping along its edges. Instead, it has a very crude hem. Instead of the angular divide between the red and black fabric above the waist, the shirt I received had a s-shaped squiggle that divides the two. There wasn't any communicator pin - just a tacky silkscreen print on directly on the fabric. There also weren't any pins for rank pips - just a cheap piece of fabric with an iron-on backing. Beware when buying this product, because it doesn't seem that what is being sold matches what is here on the website at all.

Well, I gambled and won. My costume came through CostumeKingdom Inc., and it was the exact product described here. The buying experience did not benefit from this uncertainty over what I was going to receive. However, it looks like Yagoozon and Winning Costumes are the ones sending out the crap versions, so beware these and you should get what you expect.

This shirt is nearly perfect, being as close as you can get to the shirts used on the actual show without being an exact replica. I'm 5'11" and 190, so I picked up the large. It fit great, though the sleeves were a bit long. As others have noted, it rides up like the ones on the show, but wear a black shirt underneath and you'll be good to go. The pips aren't quite accurate, being a bit too small and too gold, but they still look good on the collar.

The combadge is junky; since it uses a glued-on pin it droops off the shirt and just looks stupid, but if you use a hobby knife you can shear the pin off and use velcro to attach it, which looks much better. Actually, the combadge was the only real defect: it was scuffed and losing paint, and when it arrived it was already pinned to the shirt, which caused minor damage to the fabric. Nothing huge, but still lame.

Overall its a great costume with some minor flaws. I'm not sure if it's Con worthy, but it received compliments at a Halloween party, and I felt geeky-awesome in it. Avoid the crap versions and fix the pin, and you'll be pleased.

First I ordered a size small. The zipper on the bottom part did not close by 3". I sent it back and got a medium. The zipper at the bottom was still a bit too narrow, but the top of the shirt was huge. I am a small woman with even proportions. I can't imagine what a man this shirt would fit would look like. I had to have the whole thing literally taken apart and remade. I'm happy with the way this looks NOW, but it took major alterations. The designers should go back to the drawing board.

I love the Deluxe TNG costume. The problem is this company that sells it can't figure out which one they are selling. The deluxe or the basic top. One picture shows the deluxe, red trim on collar, insignia pin. The other shows the basic, screen printed insignia.

Both decent costumes, but when I ordered the deluxe. As it is listed, they sent me the basic.

So, I went to an actual costume website and bought the deluxe. Great costume!

The material is shoddy, and the shirt had multiple frayed/loose threads, right out of the package. The small metal rank markers are of the cheapest imaginable design, and the communicator pin had numerous scrapes/chips. It's a pretty cheap knockoff, but it'll get the job done if you're doing a Halloween party and not looking to fit in at an aficionado's gathering or Star Trek Convention.

The shirt I received (from Yagoozon / Winning Costumes, LLC), was not the shirt that was advertised on this listing, it was supposed to be the 'deluxe' edition, but it was not, it was one of very low quality with loose and misaligned seams, thin plasticy fabric with multiple runs in it right out of the package, it had iron-on pips, no piping detail on the collar, and a cheap silk-screened comm badge.

I sent that one back and when Costume Superstore began selling it here, I ordered it again from them, and now I am a happy camper. The materials used on the Deluxe edition are of high quality, the shirt is licensed and looks sharp. It's modeled exactly the way the show's uniforms looked. The metal pips that it come with are nice, and they come with a combination which allows for any rank configuration and a nice explanation for the layman as to how that looks, not that I needed that, but that's a nice touch. The shirt zips all the way up in the back, instead of just from the collar down to an area at mid-shoulder like the last one. I'm much more satisfied with the detail and the quality of this Deluxe version, which is the one I wanted in the first place, than I was of the last one.
A note about size: I am a big man, 6'2" 250, and the x-large fit just right, not too snug, but not loose either. I could step onboard a Federation ship and take command, it really feels that authentic.

Bit of caution, and others have said it too, you'll really want to have a black shirt on with your black slacks because the shirt does ride up your belly and if you are planning on doing any sitting, you'll notice yourself doing the 'Picard maneuver' to settle it back down. All in all, I'm super pleased with the costume as it was described here, the one I had ordered the first time, and I hope that no one is discouraged by the 1 star reviews of all the people who had a bad experience ordering this item because of one bad company. When you get the deluxe, you really get a good quality item, well worth the price.

I always struggle for costume ideas, and this year I finally decided that I would spend a little money on a constume for myself (always spend money on the kids' costumes after all). This shirt was a good (not great) deal, but I have to say I am very happy with the result.
Four stars for quality - material looks really good, a few stray threads which I had to cut off with scissors. The badge is just OK, but the pips are nice.
Looks great with a black shirt underneath and black pants/shoes.
The shirt is short, but designed that way. I'm pulling the "Picard Maneuver" frequently, but that just adds some authenticity to the costume, right?
I recommend this shirt for anyone (else) who needs a quick, easy and relatively cheap costume!
