    Allen Edmonds are surely on their way of becoming my favorite shoe brand. They're extremely well crafted with goodyear welt construction, leather soles, and good quality leather. Frankly, it's how a shoe should be built. They are expensive but are made in USA and when compared to a $100 Kenneth Cole shoe that falls apart less than a year....a worthwhile investment in quality and durability. This particular model fits very well, I normally measure out to a 8.5 EEE size but since this shoe runs a tad long I ordered an 8 EEE and it fits like a glove. The leather is soft and requires no breaking in, I put them into service on Monday and felt comfortable in them all day. The leather insole also slowly molds to your feet so they only get more comfortable and personalized over time. And when the heel finally wears out they can be sent back for recrafting. A quality product that is built for rebuilding instead of disposal. The style is very conservative, you either like it or you don't. But they're very comfortable and I expect them to last very long time to justify the cost.

The cap is very short, but I think it works very well with a big foot (13). Took out of the box and went to work. No sores, no rubs, no issues. This is a great shoe. If you think it's a little expensive, it is...but worth it. The quality and fit is much better than any brand I've tried.

    Having worn out a pair of Cole Haan split-toe oxfords over the course of four years, I decided to step up and order a pair of Allen Edmonds per the recommendation of fashion-savvy friends and colleagues. These have not disappointed over the past three months of use.

    Although I was hesitant to shell out over $200 on a pair of dress shoes, you truly do get what you pay for with the FIfth Avenue Cap Toes. The shoe is constructed extremely well with high-grade materials. As with any fine shoe, they require breaking in but after about half a dozen wears, they start adapting to the size and movement of your foot and are quite comfortable as far as dress shoes go. The shoes also fit true to size.

    Stylistically, I appreciate the pattern across the toe. It provides a subtle fashion contrast to the more staid simple line across the toe of standard cap toe shoes. Of course, that's a matter of personal taste.

    Overall, I am extremely happy with the purchase. The value of the extra $100 you spend for a pair of Allen Edmonds over a similarly styled shoe will likely come to bear later on in the shoe's life as the construction is superior and the quality evident. Of course, if that does not turn out to be the case, I'll be sure to update the review!

    AE lacks quality. The leather feels low quality and starts showing wear very fast. I have several AEs as well as Mephistos, and the Mephistos look new after 2 years of use and the AEs start showing age in the first 3-4 months.

    The leather feels rough, and dry and washed out. I wouldn't buy AE any more.

    Excellent quality shoes that are worth every penny. While I can't say that everyone should order a size down, I'd recommend visiting an AE store to be measured (and no, that doesn't mean go get your foot measured at any shoe store, go to an actual AE store).
    I used to buy Cole Haan's for the price, and at that price point they're a good quality shoe. However, they don't compare to AE, and the price difference is well worth it. The only other brand I will continue to buy aside from AE, is Alden. Both excellent quality shoes that can be re-crafted to last you a lifetime!
    I wrote almost the same review (above) for the Park Avenues I purchased at the same time, but arrived a few days earlier. I've been alternating days between both pairs (Park Avenue and Fifth Avenue) for the almost two weeks now and both shoes are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn and look fantastic! Highly recommend!

    I am on my 3rd pair of these shoes trying to receive a pair without defects, every single pair has had quality defects that are obvious and ludicrous given the cost of these shoes. First pair had strange staining welts (blackened and raised up off the leather) on the tongue under every lace-hole as well as a large scuffed area on the side leather of one heel. Second pair actually had a cut (like with a sharp knife/scalpel) about a cm long on the side of the shoe that was obviously not caused by shipping, this latest (third) pair also has a staining welt on the tongue but it is larger and more centered (so it can be seen through the laces) and the other tongue is sown in totally off center to the point where it actually creates some uneven pressure on the foot when the shoe is on.

    If anyone at Allen Edmonds spent a couple minutes inspecting any of these shoes before boxing them up the defects should be obvious. I could understand and accept this if I were buying known seconds, but for a "new" pair having these kinds of imperfections is crazy.

    These are 5 star shoes in terms of comfort and style but with a 1 star quality-check process at the manufacturer, so I gave them 3 stars. My other pair of AE shoes bought many years ago are wonderful, so something tragic has occurred between then and now at AE. Some people may be OK with these kinds of imperfections in several hundred dollar shoes, but not me. These aren't flaws that add "character", these are straight-up manufacturing imperfections.

    I question if it is worth going through yet another round of exchange or if I should get a refund and give up. Amazon has been wonderful throughout the process and their customer service is top-notch. In no way should the lack of QC at Allen Edmonds reflect on Amazon, although I have to imagine it is a hassle for Amazon to deal with as well.

    I would not expect anything more. I have several pairs of AE shoes and they truly are the gold standard in men’s footwear. So while these could very well be ‘seconds’ or imperfect, at half of what you can pay direct and delivered in couple days, that is just fine with me. Let’s be honest, after a couple days of normal wear all shoes become imperfect. Still GREAT shoes.

    The shoes came in the original box and included the shoe dust/travel bags. Perhaps a few minor knicks and slight leather discoloration in one spot near the heel but at more than 50% (based on the pair I bought) these were a killer deal. Photo attached is the actual pair. Can’t say I feel like I settled for a lesser pair. I may have gotten lucky but these are my 7th pair and they are darn close to the AE direct pairs I have purchased.

    Before I begin, I snagged a pair of the dark brown for $190. If Amazon had listed these as factory seconds and held the price around $200, I’d give it a 5/5 and tell all my friends to buy a pair. However, Amazon does not list these as factory seconds, and definitely not at factory second pricing. I would be more disappointed in Amazon, but the pair I got actually weren’t terrible and were a pretty good deal for sub $200. I also got a pair of AE strand cap toes off Amazon, and it took 3 pairs before I got a pair that were actually wearable. I’ve contacted Amazon on two occasions to inform them they are selling seconds without advertising it, but they have yet to do anything about it. Rather shady of Amazon IMO.

    Ok, so a review of the shoe. They’re seconds, clear as day. The leather is not at all uniform in colour, you can easily tell, but, it’s not the worst looking leather and the dark brown kinda hides it. There were also a few areas with frayed stitching. I just snipped it flush and am hoping it doesn’t start to pull apart. The sole on one of the shoes has a slight split on the upper edge on th outside heel. I’m no expert on shoes and I’m hoping it’s just aesthetics and won’t jeopardize the integrity of the shoe. If it does, I’m calling Amazon. So ya, for a pair of Allen Edmonds for sub $200, this was one crazy good deal.

    I’m giving these a 1/5 because of Amazon being shady selling unmarked factory seconds. Also, I have a pair of Allen Edmonds that were not factory seconds that I am comparing this shoe to. So these shoes are either factory seconds, or Allen Edmonds quality has plummeted.
