From the manufacturer

Bosch 1250DEVS 6.5 Amp Corded 6 in. Variable Speed Random Orbit Sander/Polisher

The 1250DEVS features two distinct sanding modes, an extremely aggressive turbo driven, eccentric orbit sanding mode for very aggressive sanding, as well as a conventional random orbit sanding mode for normal stock removal and fine finishing. With the flip of a lever, the sanding mode can be easily changed. The desired speed is set using a speed dial and Constant Response circuitry maintains the desired speed under load. The 1250DEVS comes with a Bosch microcellular hook-&-loop sanding pad. These soft pads deliver finer, smoother, flatter surface finishes, due to their ability to conform to the surface of the work piece and due to the elastic support of the pads’ plastic inlays. User comfort has been addressed on the 1250DEVS in its PowerGrip, contoured head, compact 7.7 In.-diameter circumference barrel, and standard-equipment auxiliary handle. The 1250DEVS features a passive dust collection system, which maximizes its efficiency when used with a vacuum-based dust collection system. Large channels in the pads allow debris to be easily pulled through vacuum port. Bosch internal testing determined that the 1250DEVS captured an impressive 96 percent of material removed. The dust port is sized for the optional Bosch vac hoses, and an adapter is included for attachment to 1-1/4 In. and 1-1/2 In. hoses.

About Bosch Random Orbit Sanders
In Bosch's random orbit sander family, you'll find an assortment of powerful, versatile sanders and polishers that are designed for low vibration and minimal noise. These models feature counterbalance mechanisms that serve as the basis for the dual bearing pad mount system, which can be operated with one finger on a soft grip.

About the Bosch 1250DEVS Random Orbit Sander
The 1250DEVS multiple-purpose sander from Bosch has two sanding modes: random orbit mode for normal stock removal or fine finishing, and an aggressive "Turbo" drive eccentric orbit mode that operates at five times the regular rate, in order to remove rougher stock. Its simple sanding mode selector switch quickly changes back and forth between the two modes, as your projects require it -- and the powerful 6.5 amp variable speed motor (3,100 to 6,650 opm) matches the tool's speed to the task, for a smooth result on all surfaces.

This model is crammed with great convenience and power features, including a soft start function that tones down the start-up torque and a variable speed dial that makes it extra easy to match your working speed to the project. It also has Constant Response circuitry that maintains the pad speed under heavy loads while simultaneously protecting against overloads, and an integral pad dampening system to help prevent swirl marks -- plus a passive dust collection system (vacuum and hoses required, available by Bosch). The 1250DEVS uses 6-hole, 6-inch hook-and-loop discs. This kit includes a dust tube, soft backing pad, a left or right-hand auxiliary handle, one sanding disc, and a pad wrench (5mm) that stores on-board.

Applications
The 1250DEVS removes stock and finishing material quickly, without scratching -- making it perfect for most sanding jobs, from wood floors to furniture finishing. Bosch makes an assortment of 6-inch hook-and-loop discs and pads to fit this model, including discs for wood, paint, and special applications.

A Beast - The real Deal for my purposes
5 out of 5 stars
A Beast - The real Deal for my purposes
I needed a more powerful sander and I found it. Got several kinds of hand sanders including belt sanders being the most aggressive, sometimes too. Let me start with my only complaint. After unpacking it looked brand new. But when powering, I noticed a concerning noise, sounded like a bearing issue. Immediately contacted Bosch customer service explaining my concern and that I would like to talk to a technician. The person I spoke to had no clue, put me on hold and came back after talking to a technician I wanted to talk to in the first place. Technician told her must be defective and since under warranty I could ship to get fixed. At that point I stopped the conversation and put the machine to work. Fast forward 2 months later. Machine is still going strong w/o any issues. Don’t know what causes/caused that to me unusual noise but frankly, I don’t care anymore. Since, I used that sander several times a week, primarily on wood, but I also wet sanded (many square feet of) epoxy resin countertops and tables (220-2000 grit), picture. Per instructions in the manual the sander shouldn’t be used for wet sanding, but since the ventilation openings are located at the very end of the machine body, I figured it should be okay w/o destroying it or get electrocuted. On wood I typically use 40-320grit. When switching into aggressive mode, the beast comes out. Besides random orbit, the disk also forced rotates at 600rpm. Then sanding becomes very effective. In that mode one can feel the torque, especially at lower grit or buildup in sanding disk center, which requires a firm grip. The handle can be mounted at either side. I’m very pleased with the sanding results, no significant marks left. Dust extraction is excellent (in combination with Metabo vacuum). Comes with adapter that fit my 35mm Bosch hose. Machine is relatively heavy but rather an advantage when sanding horizontal planes (majority of my work). I didn’t measure the noise level but it’s not quiet. I also used it briefly to polish plastic, but switched back to my Makita buffer, a specialist for that task ;) Overall I’m very pleased with the product, unfortunately not with Bosch’s (incompetent) customer service. After the purchase I noticed other Amazon sellers offering slightly better deals. Will update review if any reason.

I bought this sander to prep for a skim coat to smooth walls. Plaster was textured up to 5/16" out in some areas and painted with oil paint. Scraping with water wasn't an option, and I didn't want to skim out 3/8". Initially, I hit it with a belt sander, but I started getting inconsistent grooves. My research led me to this sander as a less aggressive option on walls. This did OK with 40 grit in the turbo mode, I needed to apply strong pressure to get the material to come off. Working vertically, this was a very tiresome and long process at 10 minutes a square foot. However, I estimate this tool probably saved me 25 hours over using my other tools on hand (belt sander, a other R/O sanders), and I've always wanted one of these anyways (Unfortunately for my wallet, I get enjoyment of buying new tools).

It includes a VAC002 dust adapter, which connected perfect to my 5 gallon shop-vac and did not slip out. That being said, the VAC002 connector to the sander doesn't stay on for more than 30 seconds. Why a $270 tool doesn't include an adapter that stays on the sander is ridiculous. However, it is easily solved with quick ties as some other reviews mentioned. The shop vac (with high efficiency bag and HEPA cartridge) had no performance issues, most dust was picked up, and I think the CFM of the shop vac is well matched to this sander. I say this because dust collection with my shop vac doesn't work well on other equipment I have, but this sander, luckily, it works.

Health-wise, I wore a respirator (P100 pads), dust goggles, and hearing protection. Also, I sealed the working area to prevent dust escaping, Just because you can't see dust, doesn't mean it's not there, paid the price too many times later at night, so I always wear plenty of safety gear.

As far as discs, I tried a few brands (Bosch, Powertek, one other) of 40 grit. After 5 minutes, I saw the effectiveness severely drop, yet the disc is clean and still looks like it's new. Putting on a new disc, back in business, material flies off. I surmise that the grit gets dull on the hard material I'm working with, I guess it was very dense plaster. I don't see this with wood, but just saying, you may want to have lots of discs on hand as I had to wait to get more 40 grit discs, not easy to source on a weekend.

This unit is very easy to control and doesn't have much vibration, Material removal is decent, but, bear in mind, it won't be a cakewalk if you have a lot of material to remove. Some of the other reviews state that it's "absurdly" quick, it may be quick for a very thin coat, but taking off a lot of material will make you sweat.

Haven't tried it for finishing, but I think it would be good to strip big flat wood furniture, like tables. So, looking forward to using on other things.

I will start out by saying that I'm a petite 5'1", 120 lb. female who is stripping and painting a large 136 yr. old house. I do a lot of sanding and needed something more powerful than my DeWalt orbital sander for some areas. I did a lot of research and finally decided on the Bosch 1250DEVS even though reviews talked about how heavy it is.. I really like it, but it is heavy (8 lbs., I think.). I probably won't be doing any overhead work with it. It will get away from you, though, so be careful. It's powerful. I also ordered the Bosch SR6R060 5-Piece 60 Grit 6 In. 6 Hole Hook-And-Loop Sanding Discs ($6.08 pack of 5) even though they're more expensive bc I wanted to see if they were indeed worth the extra expense. While they work fine, I really don't see a lot of difference between them and the Sanding Disc, 60 Grit 6-Inch 6-Hole Sandpaper - LotFancy Hook and Loop Random Orbital Sander Paper, Pack of 100 ($23.99 for 100). Just be sure to keep them in a Ziplock bag if you keep them in your work area so they won't get dusty bc that may affect their ability to stick to the sander. I also went ahead and ordered a 3M Full Face piece Reusable Respirator 6800, Paint Vapors, Dust, Mold, Chemicals, Medium ($99.13) with the 3M 2091 P100 Particulate Filter, 4 PCS 2 pairs because what I'm sanding is very fine dust (oxidized lead paint dust to be exact.). If you're worried about vapors order the filters for vapors/smells. I call 3M to find out the best filter for my job, and this is it. I don't use the sander for everything because it's a 6" vs 5" for my DeWalt, and it doesn't fit everywhere. Plus, it is a little too powerful for some places on the house. I do love it, though, and highly recommend it. I feel very grown up using it! ; ) Oh, and it creates a great deal of dust which is why it uses a filtration system with your shop vac. I wasn't sure what to get, and couldn't find a review that was overly clear - I took a chance, and am very happy with what I ordered. For the hose that attaches to the sander and shop vac I ordered: Cen-Tec Systems 94203 30 Ft. Hose for Home and Shop Vacuums with Universal Power Tool Adapter for Dust Collection, Silver ($49.99). Hope all of this helps! Have fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best six inch sander on the market!
Reviewed in Canada on March 6, 2015
A commercial duty sander, that's preferable to its Festool equivalent. I was strongly considering the Festool Rotex 150 (after demoing it) but determined that the Bosch was just as good for half (or sometimes less) the price.

    My main reasons:
    1) It's made in Germany like those past classic Bosch tools. Fit and finish are excellent. It's smooth and actually quieter than the Rotex!
    2) It uses standard 6" discs (6 hole) which are readily available at Home Depot and most auto/fastener supply shops etc. You're not forced to stick with the proprietary Festool discs. This is especially important when you're working off-site in remote locations and need to keep the party going! Tracking down a Festool boutique item doesn't help much when you're under pressure from a client. Festool's Koolaid system doesn't make any sense from a business standpoint - really, and I stand by that. Would you really drive 1-2 hours out of your way to buy a particular brand of gasoline for your pickup? That's what owning a Festool is like!
    3) Dust collection is very good, it really comes down to the quality of your vacuum. Maybe the Festool has a miniscule edge (with its multiple holes on the edge), but even a $100 shop vac will do you just fine!
    4) Power is not an issue - with it's whopping 6.5 amps. The rotary only mode does require practice. This mode does remove as much as a belt sander, but if you're concerned about cross grain scratches it's best not to use. I find it easier to sand out belt sander marks (that are with the grain) than remove the cross grain rotary marks. The rotary mode is best for the auto detailing and the polisher folks. It works great for polishing fiberglass and wax jobs. This makes the Bosch a very versatile machine.
    5) Custom sanding options are available. You can get a hard pad, soft pad, and ultra soft pad (all available on Amazon). The ultra soft pad is suitable for sanding veneer cores - but just barely.

Because it is less expensive to purchase than the Festool, it doesn't come with a case (a $65 option) and the extra pads ($25 apiece typically).

It's durable, as we've run it continuously for 10 hours a day for days on end, with no over-heating or motor clogging. The foam backing pads (as expected) do wear out - so keep them on hand.

    Highly recommended!

Look I bought it in April 2019 never had the chance to use until now. I know it's September 2024. Busy schedule I guess. Lol 😆 But it's the best sander I ever used so far. I noticed that they updated the model. It works and it's worth the price. It runs so smooth it's crazy. I highly recommend. Great product 👌 👍

2.0 out of 5 stars Un outil Bosch très décevant pour le prix!
Reviewed in Canada on October 10, 2019

So when I saw this on sale on an Amazon Cyber Monday deal I jumped at it.

    Pros:
Price, even at full price this is les than half of the Festool RO150.
Tons of power, in rotex mode hang on.
    Fast material removal.
Good build quality, Ergonomics/usability are good.
Dust collection was good with my Festool vacuum.

    Cons:
Price, even on sale dual mode sanders are expensive.
Different hole pattern from Festool & Makita 6" sanders, which I have a stock of paper for, but will move toward abranet more to accommodate.
This really is a rotex sander/polisher it's big and powerful... you can use it for finish sanding, but I wouldn't.

This Sander is a beast. It does what other sanders would take days to acomplish. It’s almost to powerfull. Those 4 cabinet doors ( made out of 3/4 inch hardwood flooring Birch) . Shaker style. 5/8 inch outside and 1/2 inch SOLID middle. I didn’t half to use my thickness planer to sand off the lines indents on the backside of the flooting. Also to sand off factory sealing. U could use a belt sander but leaves to many gouges.
This beast easily sanded flatly and smooth. And buying from Amazon.ca saved at least $200 dollars VS anywhere else. Ordered Fri Am. Recieved Wed afternoon via PostMan. (Person ooops sorry) .
