This has a really solid, confident feel to it. Inside the handle is an integral block of metal extending down into the hollow. From the top of the beefy blade collar to the base of the block in the handle is about an inch and a quarter of metal anchoring the base of the blade. The blade is held in place by one hex bolt through the side of the handle, that I can see, but there is no play between blade and handle. The metal of the handle seems to be steel, from the sound and weight. The tool without the kit is noticably handle heavy, and I wouldn't expect aluminium to be this dense. The blade is 7 1/4 in. long from the collar (7 6/8 from the gaurd) and 1/8 in. thick with just a little spring to it, using only my hands to bend it. The handle seals with an o-ring which stretches out around the beveled base of the cap threads, providing a good seal and applying pressure to the threads to help keep the cap from backing out. The sheath is made of heavy nylon cloth, is quite flat and large enough to allow the knife to be carried reversed or to poke a laniard hole through the tip without the cord being cut by the blade. The corners of the saw teeth have been beveled while the edges of the teeth are reasonably sharp so the corners don't tear the sheath material. The grind is a little rough on the back of the clip point but not bad really. Yeah, I feel pretty confident in this thing for realistic use (it aint an axe or hammer) and at the current price of 12 and change I'm not afraid of risking loss or damage. Good knife.

Now I have a few knives and some pricier Gerbers....For the price this knife is top notch. The blade does not come razor sharp but I get it, that is on us. The matches, fishing kit and compass are nice touches. Definitely a good thing to have but I have tons of ways to make fire but no fishing kit so this is a winner. Blade was nice but does need sharpening. The serrated side may or may not be useful due to largeness of them but still, have or have not. Quality of glass is there and is not like my higher end knives but is equal to some that are double this price. Handle is awesome...Nit ergo but utilitarian. Overall, I would buy this again and now just to sharpen it. I would recommend this knife to anyone looking for a knife that seems purposely built.

Wow, I was very impressed with this knife out of the box. Very sturdy and very sharp also it has weight to it to make it feel like a solid, well build knife. It also has a nice survival kit in the knife handle, I would just add some more matches. The knife is 7 inches long and handle is 5 inches. Knife looks and feels great but since I have large hands, the handle is about 1 inch too small for a total comfort feel but I am still very happy with it. Compass is very small but works and it accurate with my standard hiking compass. Knife is just the right size for camping or hiking. Not too large to stand out and make you seem like a Rambo wanabee. Large knifes seem cool but are overkill Unless you do serious hunting. This is perfect for my camping and hiking trips to Yosemite and for the price I am very happy.

I have been seriously involved in numerous blade arts (Kenjutsu, Wakizashi-jutsu, Tanto-jutsu, Filipino knife arts etc.) for more than sixty years. The price of this Whetstone Cutlery: The Vermillion Survival Knife and Kit with Sheath is what caught my eye. I have owned a large number of knives over the years, including many of the so-called "Survival Knives." I purchased this knife on Amazon and found it to be a good value for the price.

This knife is hard solid metal with a 7 inch blade. One side has plain sharp edge and the other side has a serrated edge. The tip and the edge portion are fairly sharp with the entire blade being thick and durable. The handle portion has a good gripping surface and the cap can be screwed apart where a small plastic case holds matches and plastic string. Inside the bottom of the knife cap holds a compass which I found to be very accurate. The black nylon knife sheath also holds a small knife sharpener. The only complaint I have about this knife is the blade is loose due to a small screw that was missing from the side of the handle portion.

In conclusion, this is a good knife for the price. Even though the very small screw was missing from the handle portion I still like this survival knife.

I gave this knife a 3 star for its cost. It is decent enough for the money. My concerns are strength and durability, but for what I can see it should be a great Jr. knife. Wheystone Cutlery is professional, reliable, and delivers just as they said they would. Great company and great service.

This knife is pretty awesome, the content is a bit cheap but the overall on the knife its self is awesome. It came out of the box as sharp as a person would need it to be out in a survival situation. I was really surprised at the quality of the knife, the sheath is not as good a quality as I would like it to be but I'm not John Rambo out in the jungle in a life or death situation either. I put this in my survival bag for hunting and fishing just in case something tragic happens I have more than just a skinning knife to get me through a tough time. Good product for the money and I am glad I purchased it.
