Just what I needed for my A&P class! It came so fast and was easy to put together. It comes with the bottom black stand, the pelvis to the top of the head come connect, you just have to attach the arms and legs - super easy. (That is a regular size Diet Coke bottle for size reference) It is painted and numbered and it comes with a little booklet for ease of navigation. I would buy this again if I needed to.
I'm taking a college level human anatomy course, and I needed to learn the skeletal system. This big Tim numbered skeleton was REALLY helpful. It does have a lot of detail. Sure it doesn't have small things like supraorbital foramen, but it has a lot of other details.
The top part of the skull comes off so you can see the interior, and the interior had everything I needed to study for that part (internal auditory canal, foramen spinosum/lacerum/ovale/rotundum etc. just to name a few). The sutures on the top part of the skull can be seen nicely. Don't know what else to say about it, it really does the job nicely for the price. I compared this to many other different skeletons on amazon, and I found this to be te best and I'm glad I got it. The few details it didn't have or didn't have clearly, I just imagined them being there and named them anyways, that also helped me study more because I had to really know what was there.
This skeleton, along with a pictures PowerPoint I made, was the best study tool for learning the skeletal system.
I didn't have direct contact with seller, but Amazon was really great with communication and helpin me solve a small problem the skeleton had with its right arm :).
If you are a basic undergraduate level student, this is a good start. However, being a graduate level physio student, my model had a lot of glaring anatomical defects that drove me nuts. The ribs are not sized properly, the shoulders don't articulate into the GH joint, the elbow doesn't move very well which is fine given the price. The hip was misaligned, which is okay, maybe Tim had SCFE as a kid, who knows? Now, having bones put on the wrong way, the base doesn't fit into the frame,it's time for Tim to go back to the manufacturer. Too bad, the anatomical painting was a big plus for this model given similar models in this price range. My recommendation if you want something more anatomically accurate and precise, you will need to spend a little more money.
In my previous review, I did not like this skeleton. (see below)
Since then, I have changed my mind. When I wrote that review I was on the tail end of learning the last of the bones. So, now that I know them, and have Trail Guide, I really like this guy. He's come in very handy in my study. Trail Guide is key, though. I still think he's a tad on the flimsy side, but if you are cautious, and don't have two young boys who can't help but be fascinated and want to articulate every which way...or decide to take the skull off and remove the axis & atlas ;), then it shouldn't be a problem. (I still got it back together...but it's even more tilted.)
one more note. Don't count on it to help you with much skull detail.
Following is the original review:
After reading the other reviews, I had decided on this skeleton. However, once I got it I was not impressed. As a massage therapy student, I was hoping to have a good study guide. This skeleton is not particularly accurate. The bones, bony landmarks, and attachments are marked in small hand painted numbers....while most are legible, not all are, and I can't always tell a 9 from a g. The accompanying booklet offers the names of the bones, however, not always the names of the bones as I am learning. For example, the ilium as I have learned it, is referred to as the "Os Coxae" in the booklet. As well, many of the other names are not English, I assume Latin. I am using Trail Guide in addition to my school's assigned book. Neither of my books have these naming conventions. There is something in the booklet (#53) which is called Manus. While I cannot find it on the skeleton (still searching), I assume it is the hand because I recognize the carpal names.
At this point, I hope you've already turned away. If not, here is more: It is also flimsy and stands/hangs crooked. If you really need a good study guide, I would not recommend this. While space remains an issue, I am wishing I'd bucked up & spent a bit more for quality & accuracy.
Three good notes: 1,the skull detaches and you can see inside. 2. the booklet offers Chinese translation, helpful for English as a second language students. 3. my kids think it's totally cool.
I'm taking an anatomy and physiology class and thought this would come in handy for somewhat detailed study of bones, their surfaces, and how the bones articulate with each other. It is! It has surprisingly good detail for such a small model. No it's not perfect, but it's the best bargain skeleton I've seen.
At first glance, this seems like a cheap skeleton (which of course it is compared to a full size one), but after comparing it with a more expensive small skeleton with a higher user rating, Flexible Mr. Thrifty, this is so much better for my purposes.
The way Tim is wired together seems a little fragile, but you can bend the joints and get an understanding of how the bone surfaces match and work together. This helped immensely with my skeletal lab study. You can remove the arms and legs for individual study and remove the head for studying the underside, which has pretty good detail considering the size.
After spending time with both Flexible Mr. Thrifty and Big Tim, Tim is the clear winner. If you're considering Flexible Mr. Thrifty for A&P study, you may want to check out my review on that page as well. Flexible Mr. Thrifty Skeleton With Spinal Nerves
