Yes, a neutral wire is required for installation.
What does the offset setting do?

Offset time is an optional feature that will allow the user to add or subtract time from the sunup/sundown start and end times. For example, if set to 30 minutes, the lights will turn on 30 minutes after sundown and turn off 30 minutes after sunup.
What does random mode do?

Random mode will add or subtract anywhere from 1-20 minutes to the programmed on/off times to create a random pattern. Ideal when on vacation so the lights turn on and off at various times each day giving the home a more “lived in” appearance.

This replaced a somewhat similar product we've had for some years. It was OK but it always bothered me that it came on much earlier than it needed to when using the "on at dusk, off at 11pm" settings.

These are pretty bulky, so you need to install them in quite a large box. Ours is in a fiberglass triple box with two other normal switches and everything fits ok in that.

This switch also has a 3-way wire - my other one didn't. That seems like a nice feature but I haven't tried it since I'm using this for my front porch lights and only have one switch - which seems pretty typical for porch lights.

I like that the longitude and latitude configuration seems much more precise than one the old switch. It takes the whole numbers of each. My old one used the time zone, and a north, central, south - which may be at least partially responsible for it coming on earlier than I would have liked. The instructions refer you to a Leviiton web page that will turn your street address into lat/long. Another nice touch.

This switch also has an offset. If you are using dusk as a trigger, you can set dusk+n minutes - 30 minutes seems great where we live. According to the instructions, you can also use an offset if you use dawn as a trigger.

Programming devices like these is always a little daunting - there are so many options. I had to use "pro mode", and I set up a single mon-sun program, with on at dusk+30mins, and off at 11pm every day;. That was really easy and took me about 15 mins. The instructions are reasonably clear. You can set up weekday or weekend programs or program each individual day if you like. The switch also supports multiple on/offs per day if you need.

The display is cool. The switch hinges up for access to the programming buttons, ands has a push on/push off action on the lower part of the switch to manually override.

If I had to criticize one thing, it's that the normal position of this switch is with the lower part sticking out, where every other switch in my home has the upper part sticking out when off, so it doesn't line up with the rest. I may be just a touch OCD.

I hope this lasts a good, long while, So far, so good.

I read a lot of reviews mentioning the level of difficulty presented to the user trying to program this switch. I was apprehensive about it, but I decided that buying a product from a well known company like Leviton would be 1000x better than buying a switch from one of many knockoff no-name companies on Amazon, especially those from China. I'm very glad I did. And worst case scenario, I figured as bad as the instructions may be, it's got to be better than any translated foreign instructions, and if I had to call for help, spending time on the phone with customer support with an American company would be a lot less frustrating than the alternative. Heck, I figured, i went to college. I'm sure I can figure this out.

The switch itself was relatively easy to install. The instructions weren't super clear, but most homeowners with a modest degree of knowledge regarding light switches and wiring should have no trouble taking out the standard switch and installing this one. The only complicated part for me was trying to find out which size wire nut to use. (By the way, you may need to purchase wire nuts to install this switch, especially if your old switch was installed using the push-in fittings.)

I bought this switch for the sole purpose of having the astronomical clock function for my porch lights, so I programmed in the "PRO" mode (vs the "Standard" mode). This allows you to input in your latitude and longitude to let the switch know your location. The company's website will help you find your coordinates for your town. I found it much easier to pull up on the compass app on my iPhone since it shows it right there.

As far as programming, I just read the instructions and went along step by step. I was worried that during the programming process that if I took too long to try to figure out the instructions that the switch would get tired of waiting and that there would be some internal timer that would default out and cancel the programming process, but I didn't find that to occur at all. Rather, the switch programming process would just wait there patiently waiting for me to input whatever information I needed to complete the process. As long as you complete the entire list of instructions printed on the paper (there's only about 6 or 7 steps), the process is relatively straight forward and I was done in less than 10 minutes. I think I spent more time trying to find the correct circuit breaker switch to turn off.

I only used the option of lights on at sundown and off at sunrise, as this switch is used to control my front porch lights, but there are many options to fully customize the programming to whatever creative pattern you can think of. If I were to use this switch to control my indoor lights, I would be more than happy with all the options available. Overall, the installation and programming weren't as bad as I feared based on some of the reviews I read, and I'm very happy with the switch and how my porch lights are now on "automatic" mode. In fact, I bought a second switch to control my outside lights next to the garage.

Ensure intended location of timer has enough room in switch housing box to accommodate not only the timer itself, but all the wiring and connectors - especially if there is another adjacent switch in the same wall box. One may find that the size of timer and associated hardware just may not fit in the intended wall electrical box.
