One Year, still comfortable, but wearing out

- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2011I've been working in sales now for 9 years. In that time, I've struggled to find a comfortable work shoe. I was one of those guys who went to Kmart or Pay-less shoes, only to have the pair wear out in 6 months and frankly, not even feel very comfortable in that time! So, I went shoe-shopping one day. I hit up all of the major retailers and some of the small ones. Basically, after a good 8 hours of shoe shopping, I found these shoes to be the best possible pair for me. They BREATHE, which means my feet don't get sweaty anymore. Prior to buying these, the best pair of shoes I had ever owned were a pair of Merrell Moab Ventilators Men's Merrell Moab Ventilator. The problem is, they aren't really very dressy - although they were breatheable and comfortable. Also, this review is being written in the middle of winter with a bit of snow on the ground outside -- not the best time for the Merrells....
I purchased my initial black pair at The Walking company. For the record, they are a GREAT outfit! However, they didn't have a size 11 in brown -- and it wasn't available to order. So, I quickly came home and snapped up a pair on Amazon for $30 less.
As a result of these shoes, I will probably be a lifetime Clarks customer. I had the opportunity to try several different brands with the polyurethane soles, but they felt too "synthetic" and unnatural to me, and each time I kept going back to the Clarks with their rubber soles. I had also heard about the polyurethane soles suddenly cracking, splitting, or coming apart on some the competitor's shoe brands, which made me a litle nervous. I was a little surprised to get home and see they were made in China, but I suppose that's rather unavoidable these days. The research that I've done seems to indicate that you won't be finding too many Clarks made elsewhere, but they seem to have retained a good portion of their quality.
I will update this review accordingly if the shoes do not hold up to my expectations, but so far, these are the best dress shoes I've ever owned.
The Moral of the story -- Stop buying endless pairs of $10-$20 discount-store shoes that don't feel that great and fall apart after 6 months, and get a GOOD pair. You -- and your feet -- deserve better!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2018Super Durable! Quality! I wanted a comfortable, business casual shoe that I could literally wear while pedaling a bicycle. I bought these shoes in 2014, and cycle most days to work. 6 mile bike ride, up some steep hills. I often walk for an hour at lunch in them as well. And I don't take good care of them at all. And after all these years, the shoe still holds up. The stitching of the shoe has held up. Not a single loose stitch. The leather upper has held up. I mean, the leather is scuffed up at the toes, but it's to be expected after years of wear and cycling. The soles have wear in the heals, but otherwise, they are fine. I have wide feet, and always purchase wide shoes with a half size up. I did find the shoes loose on me from the start, but otherwise they fit comfortably. I'm simply amazed at how this shoe has held up. Even with wide shoes, I usually see separation at the outside in other shoes, but these Clarks are still fine. Anyway, I just purchased a different dress shoe from Clarks in another style. Just arrived, and looks fantastic. I will not be cycling in my new Clarks dress shoes - haha. But I'll always have love for this old pair.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2020I am not at all happy right now. I have been wearing black leather shoes for work not for 25 years, and I have just now discovered the best shoe for the job. I have tried everything from $250.00 high top boots to $40.00 slip ons. Some were good, and some were bad, but none were perfect.... until I discovered this pair of Clarks. They fit well and are comfortable right out of the box. They seem to be constructed to last also, which is a shame since I am nearing retirement now.
I'm not sure why the photo on Amazon makes it look like they used a pair of pre-owned shoes for the photo - perhaps the photographer just took his off for the shoot? Either way, the actual shoes are sharp and sturdy, just as you would expect from new boots. They shine well also, if your job requires polished shoes, like mine does.
Overall, I am very happy with the shoes, and I will certainly buy another pair.... if I'm here long enough to need them.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2024Premium Clarks that fall apart at the seam between the eyelets at the rubber insert. I have been purchasing Clarks for years and lately I have 3 pairs of UnStructured mens shoes breaking apart between the eyelets and the mid arch of the shoes. There is an insert made of rubber that fails and ruptures allowing the shoes to split apart. I was given the run around at the store and was told they have a 60 day return policy and was sent on a wild goose chase at Clarks online. Candice denied any help based on a 6 month return policy despite there is a clear design flaw in these shoes versus other Clarks that I have purchased. I will never recommend Clarks to my patients every again and will discourage their purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic British product not cheap, import only?
Love these shoes. Made in uk but you can’t buy them here so you have to pay a fortune to re import them, go figure!! Anyway they are very well made the detail is excellent soft suede cushioned heels lamb skin leather lining hard wearing inserts in soles. Air pump system to keep feet cool. I have worn out 3 pairs over the years and still use old pairs in the garden

5.0 out of 5 stars Clark's was nuts to discontinue this shoe!
I've been wearing Clark's dress shoes exclusively for over 10 yrs. Until I got my first pair of UnRavels, there is not one ounce of hyperbole in my saying that I did not know what shoe comfort was. Their wide sizes are just right for my foot. Most shoes I try, my foot overfills the shoe.
I've burned through four pair over the years. I bought two pair in 2014 - one black and one brown. When I went to replace the black pair after they pretty much fell apart, I was disappointed to learn that Clark's discontinued the model.
So I bought two pair here! Should last me damn near to retirement.
Great, comfy shoes. Soft leather keeps a shine. And it stretches nicely to fit the foot.
The only down side is getting used to the shoe.. takes a couple of weeks for me as one heel blisters something fierce til the shoe is broken in. Small price to pay...

Yes great shoes but the conversion from USA 10 isn't the same as a UK 9 as I already had a size 9 from when Clarke's sold this style in the UK which they no longer do.
