I really wanted to love this floor cleaner. I researched lots of options and decided that I would prefer to purchase one machine that would clean both carpet and hard floors for budget and space reasons. First of all, it was easy to put together (according to my husband). However, he did overlook the second set of scrubbers which caused a bit of a panic when I first went to use the machine. So make sure you look through all of the packaging before tossing the box. The directions were clear and easy to understand. However, it did say in the directions to switch the scrubbers to "hard terrain" when that setting is actually called "gentle scrub" on the actual machine. Not a huge deal, but something I wanted to note. When I went to use the machine on our hard floors for the first time I installed the clean water tank. I followed the directions when I installed it, made sure it was in place, pulled the handle up, etc. but as soon as I put the clean water tank in place I noticed that it started leaking. And not a slow drip either, but it was pouring out and down the back of the machine and left a puddle that was at least a foot wide. We weren't off to a very good start! So I pulled it back out, wiped up the water and tried again. This time the leak was much slower (thank goodness!) and eventually it stopped leaking with continued use that night. Before I move on this machine is LOUD. I mean, my ears were ringing and it gave me a headache loud. After finishing one bathroom I hunted down some earplugs and sent the kids to the back porch with the door shut so I didn't permanently damage their hearing. LOUD. Hard Floors: I purchased the machine hoping for a really good deep clean scrub from it (it does boast of SpinSCRUB scrubbers after all). I was disappointed. Our linoleum is very textured and has lots of nooks and crannies that collect dirt. Prior to purchasing this I would deep clean my linoleum on my hands and knees with a scrub brush and cleaner. I was hoping that this machine would replace that need, but it didn't. The scrubbers did not get into the nooks and crannies to get the dirt out. The machine doesn't get close enough to the walls, it leaves a good 2-4" untouched (it slings water to the area, but it does not actually scrub there). And as expected it wouldn't fit between the toilet and wall/bathtub so all of that will need to be hand scrubbed as well (I wasn't surprised by this at all...). Another big issue I had with this cleaner on the hard floor is that there are sections in our kitchen that are high traffic areas that collect a lot of dirt for whatever reason (I'm assuming wear on the linoleum? Maybe it has lost some of it's glossy type finish?) And I was hoping that this machine would clean them right up, but it didn't. I can spray the spots with Windex and wipe them up with a paper towel, but this expensive machine wouldn't even touch them (things that make you go, huh?!). I was hoping that I could skip that step from now on, but it's not looking like it. I was impressed with how much water it sucked back up. There were little puddles here and there that I missed, or puddles from where the machine was sitting, but all in all it did a great job so the floor dried way quicker than I thought it would. The linoleum FELT really clean afterwards and it did look clean overall. But for the price I was expecting much more of a deep clean. Carpet: I was really hoping that the carpet cleaning would redeem this machine. We have a 1 year old and a 3 year old and light beige carpets...I'll let you use your imagination as to how they looked since my before picture didn't turn out. As suggested, I did pre-treat the spots on our carpet prior to cleaning. I was impressed with how well it cleaned the carpets. I spent more time on the heavy traffic areas and the areas with stains and went quickly over the other areas. The stains are gone and it really helped perk up our carpet and make it look new again. It looks better and smells really clean in here (for now...). The liquid carpet cleaner that came with the machine had a great light scent that was not overbearing but light and pleasant. I did go through the entire sample bottle of both the liquid carpet cleaner and the hard floor cleaner in one use. Upholstery: I also used the machine to clean my daughter's chair. (Note to self: don't buy a toddler a chair that is primarily white...first time parent move there!) I've cleaned the chair a number of times with various cleaners but I decided to try out this machine since I had it out anyway. I would not get the machine out and set everything up and the clean everything up just for the chair though. It did an okay job on the fabric. The spraying mechanism on the wand was crazy though. It had a HUGE fan/stream and sprayed a way bigger area than I needed. The brush didn't seem to really work well either. It would seem to rotate at a pretty good speed but as soon as I tried to use it on the chair the speed slowed significantly so that was irritating and it didn't seem to do a very good job scrubbing. The wand also didn't do a very good job sucking the water back up. The chair was soaked thanks to the over eager spray, the lack of good suction, and me trying to figure it all out. It eventually dried and looks pretty good now but not any better than when I just clean it by hand. Clean up: After using the machine there is this whole process to make sure that you clean it up properly. Overall the process is not difficult. The areas you need to clean are easily accessible and easy to clean, it just takes a little while. My biggest problem with clean up is waiting for everything to dry out so I can put it back together without the fear of mold and mildew. I cleaned Friday night and on Saturday night the parts still had some water. I'm more than ready to put it back together and get everything out of my kitchen so hopefully some sunshine will help speed the process up. Other thoughts about the machine: -It is heavy, but not unbearably so. It rolls nicely on the carpet and hard floors. -The tanks do require a lot of emptying and refilling. I understand that the bigger the tanks, the heavier and bulkier the machine though so there is some give and take. -The machine is larger than any vacuum I've owned so the question of where on Earth to store it is on my mind. -The cord is about 3' shorter than I would like for it to be. -I battled with the tool storage while I cleaned. The hose would not stay attached for anything. It kept flopping loose and driving me crazy so I finally took it off. Eventually the entire tool storage holder thing completely fell off as well. It just barely hooks in so it just took a little bump for it to go flying, especially since the weight of the hose wasn't there. If I had to do it all over again, I think I would get a separate carpet cleaner and a hard floor cleaner and I would avoid the combo machine. But then I'd have 2 machines to try to find a place for...so that is still the downside of getting 2 different machines. Pictures: One picture shows the before and afters of the bathroom linoleum.
