The Fountain of Youth
LEGO does a great job of getting licenses from major motion pictures (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Cars, Toy Story, etc.) and this series looks to do the same thing. Capitalizing on the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise seems like a no-brainer, honestly. But we are just now getting a taste of the LEGO take on the popular film series. I will say, I don't particularly care for the Pirates movies. Maybe it's over-the-top acting by Depp. Maybe it's the Disney, sugary-sweet production value. Maybe I'm just tired of the Pirates fad in general. All that being said, I don't even care. This is a cool LEGO set. The minifigs have so much attention to detail, that it makes me want to go back and give the films a chance. The only thing bad I will say is the amount of pieces per dollar. When you are paying for a LEGO set, it may seem overpriced. I can't necessarily defend LEGO's price point on this product. Perhaps it should be a good $5 less. But the fact of the matter is: LEGO products are high quality. A similar product in an off-brand would have pieces that don't fit together properly, detail that is lacking, and plastic pieces that seem like they were produced with low-quality molds. Basically LEGO puts a lot of work into quality control and attention to detail. SO, that's why I think this set is a buy, despite the price point. Types of pieces: Clear blue studs and "flames" to simulate water (also blue base pieces to simulate water) pillars with interesting cap pieces several green structural, triangular pieces mylar-like plastic sheet (water-fall) that has two holes that suspend from hook-type pieces different pieces in the fountain structure to simulate cascading water Accessories: 2 compass pieces, one circular map piece, 2 goblets, two regular swords, one Golden-handle sword The minifigs have a lot of variation and allow for a great imagination to play indefinitely. The small landscape "set" pieces are fun and simple enough for young minds to expand on the adventure from the movies. I think overall this set has an interesting mix of pieces and minifigs. But let's face it you are probably buying it based upon the theme of the movies. If that is the case, I think you will like it. The set seems very true to the film franchise, and oh yeah, FREE POSTER (double-sided!) A great set to combine with other sets from the series. Overall 4/5

Ordered this for my nephew for an early bday present. He was bugging for it, and I thought ok, its a good present for $40+ bucks... When I got it in the mail I was so shocked on the size of the box... This thing is small!! But I'm paying for the Lego/Pirates name rather the toy... So I was ok with it. He wanted it and plays with it and never said anything of the size... so It's all good in my book!

Very overpriced for such a small set. Never would have bought it if the picture showed that it was only 128 pieces. May be sending it back.

This is one of the smallest of the Pirates of the Caribbean sets, and while it's a reasonably nice-looking decor set, it's not anything special, and there aren't any play features.

The minifigs included are nice; you get the standard Jack Sparrow, along with a well-detailed Barbarossa and Blackbeard. A unique golden-hilted sword is a nice touch (the other swords are the standard all-gray Lego swords). There's also a standard Lego skeleton, which you can drape artfully at the base of the Fountain. There are two small builds in this set. There's the Fountain of Youth itself, and the waterfall, which is represented by a plastic curtain printed with a water pattern that is hung from the supporting bricks. The builds are small and brief. However, this set is full of great colors, including transparent light blue pieces, vibrant blue pieces, and dark green pieces. Anyone who's trying to get more of these colors may find this set to be a good value, if they can get it on discount.

Recommended if you're collecting these sets, and you've already gotten the larger sets in the theme. However, if you're buying something for your kids, you'll probably be better off finding another set in this price range that has better playability.

My son loves the lego minifigures, and would buy sets just for the the minifigures themselves. He was very happy with the pieces that came in this set.
