Take out of box, plug into power outlet, plug into USB port on computer...done! That's it. First backup took less than an hour and the subsequent backups take 5 to 15 minutes depending on how much I've added to my hard drive. There are settings you can tweak but I haven't found a need for that.

My last backup system was a 500gb Seagate Black Armor, which was a nightmare for the whole year I had it, then it stopped working. Backups would take 6-8 hours. Just getting it to start a backup would take 5-10 minutes because of all the settings you had to go through first. It did backup the whole hard drive including all programs as well as operating system, but that was really more than I needed. If you I need an exact copy of your hard drive this may not be for you. Also if you need something super portable this my not be for you because of having to plug into a power outlet.

If, like me, you just want something quick, quiet, fast,& very simple just to back up your files, pictures, movies, music, ect at home..then this works great.

One note..I've only had this a few moths now so I can't comment on the durability, but hopefully it will last a long time because it's gonna take me a long while to fill up 1 terabyte...

I like the backup software and that it has the ability to backup multiple computers on your home network via access of one computer to the network. What I don't like is that it has to be hard wired into one of the computers to work automatically. I'm waiting for them to come out with a wireless version. Software interface is great. Easy to retrieve overwritten or deleted files by accessing a prior backup point and literally copying the file from Clickfree and pasting it into the computer. Great "do-over" for previously lost causes. You can also do ISO backups but I don't know how to perform the reinstall.

Issue # 1: Clickfree has NO phone or e-mail support.

Issue # 2: I needed tech support (available only through chat and with very limited hours) numerous times. What a hassle!

Issue # 2: It stopped working after two years. I now have to pay hundreds of dollars to a data recovery company to extract my data.

There are better companies that offer higher reliability and phone support. I DO NOT recommend Clickfree. I have owned three Clickfree external hard drives and had significant issues with two of them. The 1 TB unit was the last straw.

I own a somewhat (two years) older version of the Clickfree. I used to be happy with the product until today, when I actually needed files I had backed up. Specifically, I was looking for a data set I had created in SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). I accessed the folder on the Clickfree and looked and looked, but I couldn't find it. Had I made a mistake and placed the data set in a different folder? After more investigation, I realized that not only this data set was gone, but anything I had done in SPSS. Apparently, before backing files up, the Clickfree checked the file names and included only those files in the back up with whose file name extensions it was familiar.

When I purchased the Clickfree, I was aware that it would not back up executable files. I did not know that it would also purge various other files.

As I said, the version of the Clickfree that I own is not the one that is currently on the market. But with the experience I just had, I would be very careful with trusting the thoroughness of this product. Imagine you back up files of an architecture or mapping or graphic design software, and two years later, when you actually need them, they're gone ...

I purchased this product to back up my desktop and laptop computers and, for the most part, it does the job. I'm a little disappointed in that the product was supposed to be completely automated. The base unit, which is plugged in to my desktop, automatically backs up without a hitch. My wireless laptop, on the other hand, is hit or miss (more misses than hits) with the auto backup feature. I usually have to initiate the backup via the Clickfree software on the laptop. This may be because the laptop is in hibernation mode.

Be aware that if you're backing up system files, the updating process can take a while...30 minutes to an hour has been my experience. There's also been a couple of hickups with the software. Apparently, my anti-virus software interferred with the Clickfree and I had to reload the Clickfree software to get it to work again.

Also, when I've called Clickfree for assistance, they've been very helpful but be prepared to be on hold to talk to a rep. Sometimes the wait is so long that the recorded message instructs you to basically hang up and call back another time.

Overall...I'm satisfied with the product. It just has required a little more elbow grease than what I was expecting.

The Clickfree Automatic Home Backup C2N is an unobtrusive peripheral, sitting quietly on my CPU, where I have it programmed to backup my hard drive the same time every week. It also backs up my daughter's laptop in another area of the house. Although it's called a 'home backup' it is not wireless. The first time I used it, I plugged it into my desktop and it backed everything up. I then took it to my daughter's laptop, and it backed everything up. I then checked the contents of the C2N and saw that it had created 2 sections or files (mine & my daughter's) containing the respective backup files. At that point, I renamed the 2 files so I'd know which was mine and which was my daughter's. This is probably a bigger backup that I actually need, but I wanted peace of mind knowing that it would hold a ton of information and files. I'm going to bring it to my friend's house and backup his hard drive on his MAC too, just in case something happens to his computer with all the pics he keeps on it. I'm very happy with this purchase, and with Amazon and J&R Computer World. When I was notified the item shipped, it was received the very next day! Excellent service!
