I was looking for a cover that could hold my fire, stand horizontally or vertically, was not too bulky, and was attractive but not expensive - this fit the bill!
I was hesitant to order at first because there were not photos showing the case holding a Fire in it's 'standing' function. (I added some pics & notes in Customer Images that show this, for others who are interested). The case appears to be intended for horizontal standing, but due to the sturdiness of the tabs that hold the Fire into the case, it easily stands in vertical/portrait stance as well.
There are flexible but snug-fitting tabs that hold the fire to this case. The Fire snaps into the easily, and while they look small in the photo, they fit very snugly there's no way the Kindle will slip out of these. In order to put the fire in horizontal/landscape standing position, you slip it out of the two tabs closest to the spine, and set the edge of the Fire directly into the slot you want. This appears to be why there are 6 tabs instead of 4 - when it's in the stand, there are still 4 tabs holding your device in place and it definitely does not slip around, and is very steady while standing.
The leather-like exterior of the cover has a nice feel to it, textured but not too nubby, and definitely not cheap looking or feeling. The red color I chose is very nice, kind of a tomato red. The cover itself is quite slim, I'd estimate it adds less than 1/4" of thickness to the Fire.
When setting the Fire on its back the cover does not lay flat, there's maybe 1/2" of space between the cover and the outer edge of the screen (see photos) - but there is an elastic strap that slides easily over the front of the cover to hold it down and in place so your screen will always be protected if you throw this in your backpack or purse.
