Product Description

Product Description

Our number one selling model is more than just about the price. The Epiphone Special II is a great way for beginners to get started on guitar with real, Les Paul tone, but seasoned pros love the Special II because it's a great-sounding, workhorse guitar that lets them leave their more expensive axes at home. The authentic LP power starts with all-Mahogany construction with a Rosewood fingerboard and is voiced by a pair of hot open-coil 700T and 650R Humbucker pickups. Like all of our electric guitars, it comes standard-equipped with 500K Ohms potentiometers, our own heavy-duty 3-way pickup selector toggle switch and non-rotating heavy duty output jack. This value-champ also features Chrome hardware including the Epiphone LockTone™ locking Tune-o-matic bridge and Stop-bar tailpiece for amazing sustain and even more mind-blowing value.

Amazon.com

That trademark Les Paul shape in an economical package, including to open-coil Alnico V Humbucker pickups for great classic sound and the Tune-o-matic bridge/Stopbar tailpiece combo for sustain and that Les Paul signature tone.

Les Paul Features in an Economical Package.

Angled Headstock
Unlike cheaper designs, all Epiphones feature a 14-degree headstock that gives you more pressure at the nut and so you get more sustain with less tuning hang-ups caused by "string-tree" gadgets.

Alnico V Humbucker pickups and the industry-standard Tune-O-Matic bridge.

Rosewood fretboard with dot inlays.

Double-Waxed Pickups
Epiphone utilizes a double vacuum waxing process that ensures optimum performance. The pickup is first placed in the specialized wax vacuuming system before the cover is put in place to ensure that the wax fully penetrates to the very center of the pickup and solidifies all parts. After the cover is placed on, it is again given a second vacuum wax bath until the unit is completely saturated with wax.

Output Jack
To increase reliability and ensure consistent performance, Epiphone's proprietary output jacks feature an improved contact shape and heavy-duty spring steel.

Toggle Switches
All Epiphones feature our all-metal, USA designed switches for reliable contact and longer life.

Tunomatic Bridge
Fully adjustable, the tunomatic remains a classic after over 50 years. Unlike guitars fitted with tremolos, there are no tuning or re-stringing difficulties. Plus, tone and sustain are improved because all string vibrations are transferred directly to the guitar.

Potentiometers
Epiphone is passionate about performance. That's why their instruments use one-inch diameter potentiometers for better "throw," longer life and reliable service.

Quick-Connectors
For unequalled reliability as well as ease of service, Epiphone wiring harnesses feature quick-connectors.

Purchased this beauty along with Vox Valvetronix VT15 Guitar Combo Amplifier - 1x8 inch, 15 watts and oh does it sound nice. I changed the chords as soon as i got it to some super slinky string set for that extra bendy deliciousness. All of the hardware is solid and easily serviceable. The action was low, just about perfect. The neck is straight and without defect.
This is an overall great guitar to start with, but keep in mind that this is an Epiphone, not a Gibson with a label that says Epiphone so it isn't made with parts of the highest quality, so it isn't fair to compare it with something it will never be.

What a pretty guitar. What a good price. What a terrible buzzing noise coming from the low E string. Yowser. It's like listening to a bass. Very hard to ignore.
But, it's pretty. That's all that matters after a while, right? Us beginners give up after a month or so and just let it sit there. So, being pretty is a huge bonus.

    I digress.
The guitar sounds nice, it's sturdy (heavy, too), easy to tune (doesn't fall out of tune as bad as some reviewers claim, for me at least).

I recommend this as long as you don't care about the buzz. I care and it's hard to ignore, even though I can't play more than about 3 chords right now. That buzz put me off so bad that I gave up faster than my husband--he's still rolling.

You get what you pay for. It won't stay in tune and only tunes in large increments. Also feels like a heavy chunk of plastic. What can I expect for $120.

I am no musician but I just wanted an entry level guitar. This one seems like a good quality starter guitar. On receiving it I was happy to see it was double boxed and had foam and cardboard inserts to keep it from getting banged up. I can say that the construction seems very solid. Neck is rock-solid and pegs for the strap were also solid.

As far as the pickups, tone, and setup of the guitar... Well since I am a beginner I can't tell you how well the harmonics on the 12th fret are :) But it sounds just fine to me. Since its a step up from the "LP Junior" I suspected it may be just a bit more "guitar".

The neck looks to be very straight with the right action on all the strings. No fret buzz on any string other than the low E string when plucked too hard and left ringing. At some point, I may take it into a shop to make sure the setup is decent but only if I actually learn enough where it makes a difference.

It tuned up quickly and seems to stay in tune much longer than the cheap guitar I bought about 12 years ago. I just hope I play this one more. I picked up Rocksmith as a trainer and I really like the way that works. Works well with this guitar too.

I really like the looks of this guitar as well. Simple, all white high-gloss coating. I did notice a very minor crack in the paint where the neck meets the guitar but its hairline and I am nearly certain its just a cosmetic thing because the neck and body are solid. Its also comfortable to sit and play. Its light and small enough to play sitting down which is a bit tough with my acoustic.

There was a mention somewhere about how the frets seemed to stick outside the edge and could be rough or even cut you if they were not properly set up. Well, I ran my hand up and down and all the frets are filed to an angle and are very smooth so, once again, all the construction seems top notch.

Anyway, for a bit more than the price of a many starter guitars, this one seems like a reasonable step up. I have even seen a number of mods to this guitar and people that replace the pickups, tuning pegs, etc but for a beginner, I think this makes a very good choice.

Been using this for a few weeks now.

The finish is very nice. There are a few noticeable 'defects' in the finish if you are looking for them, but nothing out of the ordinary for such an inexpensive guitar.

The guitar arrived well set-up -- that is after an initial tuning the action and intonation were great. I would change the strings on it sooner rather than later, though.

Other observations: No rough edges where the fret bars meet the edge of the neck. The guitar itself is heaver than what I am used to.

The guitar arrived ahead of schedule so that was awesome. The bad part is there's a chip on the side of the fretboard by the low E string by the nut. That really bothers me. Also, the bumper sticker was stuck to part of the packaging so it's now no good. Other than that the set up was pretty good and the intonation was surprisingly good. Of course the white color is awesome!

Beautiful guitar, came in one day!
Factories string are even decent strings, don't have to get it restrung. Detail on the guitar is amazing not a single scratch or mark.

Plugged it into the amp and the pick up is even more beautiful than the guitar. Harmonics are very clean and crisp, strumming is even clean. Has a really heavy rock sound when I plugged it into my spider iv amp. Best $144 I've ever spent on a guitar.
