Product Description

The Samsung SSGP2100X/ZA Dragons IMAX 3D Started Kit features Samsung's new battery powered 3D Active Glasses which are the gateway to Samsung 3D entertainment. Impressive both in how they function and in what they allow you to experience, the technology works as follows: When you put them on and look at the screen, the technology first blocks the left and then the right lens. It happens faster than the blink of an eye – so your eye won't notice it. But when images are shown to each eye separately this “staggered” effect achieves far more lifelike 3D images.

I'm not much for gadgets and trinkets and bought them only because it was part of the TV package. But I'm amazed. Never seen such clear, concise, live like, and being part of the movie.

I sit about 12 feet away from my 55" Samsung TV, I couldn't believe I was swimming along the fish. The range of the 3D is approximately 10 feet, so if you sit around 10 feet away you become part of the picture. This is the most life like 3D I have ever experienced.

Even the titles come at you protruding out to about 3 to 4 feet from the screen. An amazing feat how far technology has come.

The price is stiff, but I expect the price to reach consumer affordability after more and more people get into the 3D craze and more movies are made in 3D. Right now it's luxury, a splurge. Many people who can't afford and not worthwhile to spend that kind of money if you are behind in your bills. You have to buy a pair for every member of your household. And what about guests ? Way too much to lay out.
It won't kill you waiting until the price comes down, and more movies are made in 3D.
(And I deducted 1 point because the cost of above reason.)

Yet just for the experience I suggest you visit a friend who has a 3D TV. It certainly is amazing.

By the way: The web site shows that the time time has expired on the 3D "Dragon" registration. It's a mail-in form you must fill out. That web expiration time is wrong (at this time of writing). It's another 3rd party vendor which fills the order for Samsung and suggest to call Samsung to get that 3rd party telephone number if you have a problem receiving the "Dragon".

With Samsung PN58C8000 58-Inch 1080p 3D Plasma HDTV (Black) the 3D glasses lose sync very often. Then one eye may see a discolored image, or the eyes will switch the images, causing weird "inverse perspective" effect. I suspect it's because the plasma gives off too much its own infrared noise, and also the glasses don't reliably detect the switching rate and won't sustain the proper switching when they lose the signal.

I bought these as extras to go with our newly purchased Samsung 3D tv. They work well, we can charge them by pulling them into the sub port on the t.v. itself. They are comfortable to wear and the movies are a great bonus.

The 3D effect is neat when it works. It looks better in low contrast scenes when the "ghosting" is not as noticeable. It seems I have the dreaded issue of my glasses "losing sync" with my Samsung 3D HDTV (PN58C7000). I find that I frequently have to turn the glasses off and then back on to re-sync them with the TV. They seem to lose sync randomly and not usually at the same time. You can tell when they lose sync because the coloring becomes distorted and the 3D effect is lost and the picture becomes blurry. This seems to be a common occurrence (if you Google "Samsung 3D", sync issues are at the top of the list) but when I've called Samsung customer support they seem surprised that I'm having issues. After 3 calls, I'm supposed to fax my receipts and they will be "contacting me to set up service."

I hope I soon get to use my $2000 3D setup to watch a complete movie in 3D without issues. I've had my TV about a month, but haven't been able to enjoy that experience yet.

Update 1/4/2011.... Samsung customer "service" is horrible!! I've had my 3D TV and 3D glasses for almost 2 months and have made a dozen calls to Samsung and spent HOURS on the phone and still don't have a replacement set of glasses. All I've gotten so far are scripted apologies. Totally unsatisfied with Samsung and their products!!

only includes 1 of the 2 disks.
the glasses are battery opperated and should be rechargeable.
the glasses are still nice though, but for an expensive TV and 3-D set i dont want to have to buy batteries.

Quality seems very nice. Would have given 5 stars overall but temples were very tight where they touch you around the ears. I needed to manually adjust (bend!) them out at that point; which I was not too comfortable doing for fear of breaking them. However, they did NOT break in the process. :-)

Only reason we picked this up was because it came as a bundle with our TV and a BD player. Had it not been included for free, I wouldnt have purchased it.

After watching 1 movie in 3D, i promptly sold the kit and the BD player on eBay.
