Worked fantastically well for me

Worked fantastically well for me
We have a rustic living room; brick fireplace wall, dark red leather couch, etc. I wanted to surprise my wife and make a photo frame for a couple pictures of the deer that visit our front yard. I started with very thin plywood as the foundation and glued birch bark taken from fallen trees (and well-dried) onto that plywood. I made the border of branches also found on the ground and in the end, decided to rough them up at bit at the corners. Lastly, I got the cheapest 8x10 frames that I could find at a local dollar store and glued birch bark to them. The picture frames are mounted to the main "frame" from behind with a flathead screw top and bottom. I never used a hot glue gun before, so can't compare how this one works against others... That having been said, I LOVED this thing. I had no idea how great hot glue can be! It DID use a surprising amount of glue, but I was using a lot to cover a huge amount of space and probably used more than was really necessary. I'm inclined to be a "if some is good, more is better" kind of person. It came with 6 sticks of regular and 6 sticks of the super strength glue. Not having any idea how much my project would need, I ordered extra and am glad that I did. If regular is good, then Super must be... well, super, so I ordered: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000I1QA4G?redirect=true&ref_=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_3 (My wife LOVED the frame.)

Like most others, I read reviews prior to purchasing. I saw some stating it wasn't sturdy, cheaply made, stand wasn't functional, mat wasn't large enough, etc... Well, all of those things are not accurate. It is a very sturdy well made product. The stand works great, the mat is the perfect size (it's meant to be next to your working area to keep the glue off your table etc... and if it falls over it would be on the mat thus keeping the mess, off your project. You wouldn't want a larger mat. I purchased it to fix things around the house where super glue just NEVER works and doesn't have the coverage or certain "hold" I needed. So far this thing has performed amazingly well. Heats up fast, glue comes out even and very easily (does NOT come out like water as some mentioned). The ONLY thing I will say is that the instructions state there are 2 settings. On my gun there is NOT a switch in front of the handle or anywhere for that matter - so it is NOT a dual setting gun. Perhaps I received a different model, not sure. I did see that someone else also indicated this, so perhaps it's an update. Net-net - for 11-12 bucks - you cannot complain about this gun AT ALL.

So far I have went through 8 of the included glue sticks, both regular strength and super strength, with no issues. It heats up in a couple of minutes and the glue flows with ease. If left on it will very slowly drip heated glue so make sure you have something underneath it... like the included easy to clean silicon mat! So far I have used this 3 separate times and have had no weird problems like glue expanding into the gun, perhaps those people are just pulling the trigger too hard and trying to force too much glue out a tiny hole. If you put too much pressure the glue needs to go somewhere. Anyway, I recommend it. It works fine for my application of sticking corks to a straw wreath to celelbrate the many bottles of wine I have consumed over the years.

The glue gun works very well, a great deal for the price. It takes at least 4 minutes to warm up, but not too much longer than that, but I feel like it keeps the glue at a hotter temperature, so if you're trying to glue on something that isn't quite a flat surface the glue just runs down. But I guess I'm just used to my rich mom's gun that is hot in less than 2 minutes and always stays the right temperature that keeps the glue gooey and sticky. (I actually use the gun to glue in between/fill in the wires on my rats' wire cage in their high activity areas so that the bedding doesn't fall out between the wires, so the gun doesn't work too well for my purposes, but it's great for gluing stuff back together). The mat it came with is neat. I can't believe how the hot glue can just fall off the mat, it's so easy to clean. And pretty convenient that the gun comes with sticks.

Overall I am very impressed with this tool. It heats quickly and operates easily. I've had the opportunity to try this glue-gun on my daughters preschool "rocket" project and I was very pleased with the result. It worked great and the glue dried quickly. It is perfect for creating a "bead" of glue (much like a caulking gun) and is especially effective for connecting uneven surfaces. I have seen similar kits in hardware stores, but they were more expensive then this one offered from Amazon.

Still happy with this purchase. My daughter is now a first grader and now I'm using it for my son's preschool projects. The latest one was a leprechaun trap and this glue gun really helped. I've had to purchase additional glue sticks, which I found on Amazon for relatively cheap. Still recommend this product.

The problem with this gun is that the glue does not move freely through the glue feeder, you have to push it to keep the glue moving. The gun itself was fine. I inserted an object to push the glue through the feeder, which worked for a couple of jobs. The object that I was using to help the glue move along through the feeder actually became glued in area that moves the glue stick through the gun. I had to toss the gun because I could not remove the object I had inserted to faciliate the process. Inserting that object was the only way I could keep the glue moving after a certain point. I noticed that before I started helping the glue move through the gun, there were large glops of glue comiing out at sporadic intervals and then nothing. I also noticed that the glue was not really moving anymore when the large glob of glue was coming out. Once I started helping the process, the gun was fine until the object actually was glued to the gun. I think this is the issue a couple of others who were reviewing were attempting to describe, with the large dispersal of glue and then nothing. The price was awesome and I really trusted the brand name Stanley, which is why I decided to give it a try after some of the reviewers criticized the product. I am disappointed.
