- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2013We purchased this for my older son as a gift for when I went into the hospital to deliver his new baby brother. We figured this would be a good way for him to feel like he was also "engaged" with the baby - especially considering everyone was going to be taking pictures of the new arrival. It turned out that due to a nasty flu season, they weren't allowing visitors under 18 into the maternity ward, so my husband had to give it to him at home and he had to wait to take pictures of the baby. No problem - apparently, he occupied himself during that period taking tons of pictures of everything around the house so he could show them to his new brother.
By the time I got home, several days later, he was using it like a pro. It seems to be fairly intuitive as he hasn't had to ask us how to use it and he knows how to turn it on/off, take pictures and navigate to previous ones he's taken. It certainly does seem to live up to it's moniker of being "kid-tough" - let's just say that one of the nicknames we have for my son is "Butterfingers". So far, no signs of damage from being dropped, a few trips to the zoo and the occasional trip down a flight of stairs.
He doesn't use it constantly, but he does enjoy it and feels great about having his own camera. Fearing having to replace batteries constantly, I went out and got some rechargeable ones, but so far, we're still working off the original set. And despite taking copious amounts of pictures of things like the wall or the side of the couch, he hasn't filled up the internal memory (I will admit to surreptitiously deleting some of the less "interesting" pictures, but I've only gotten rid of a few).
Overall, a great purchase and well worth a small investment to save our digital SLR from the hands of Butterfingers...
- Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2011I searched all over the web for a better description of this camera before I bought it. these are for Christmas so my kids haven't played with them yet. My husband really wanted me to get these for the kids instead of the other Fisher Price cameras that were only $40. and after they arrived I have done a test run for each camera and I have a small list of pros and con(s) that I am going to share
Pros
1. they are heavy duty.
2. the SD slot is hidden away in the battery compartment and locks with a screwdriver. I like this because my kids wont lose the card I put in it.
3. the picture quality is listed in the manual as 1280x960. I was particularly happy to see this since I had looked all over to find out what quality picture it was going to take. video quality is 640x480. small, yes, but not horrible for a 'toy' camera.
4. I was actually glad that it didn't come with a USB cable. I already have SO many of those things around here. one more is just unnecessary.
Con(s)
1. when you take a picture or press a button to zoom in/out, well pressing any button, it makes silly sounds. okay yep, it's a toy... but I really wish there was some way to turn that off because I don't really want to hear sproing-y boing blip noises for hours on end. perhaps I just haven't figured out how to turn off the noises, yet.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2012So for 50 bucks I was expecting a piece of junk! I got this for my 5 year old for Christmas. It is now March, and he still loves it. The onboard add-ins crack him up and he loves adding silly hairdos or a frankenstein head to pictures of mom and dad. There have been plenty of drops, and the thing has shown no signs of problems. He has taken it on plenty of trips that involved slamming around in his backpack and no problems. I did not add extra memory, I just planned to unload it often, but it holds quite a few pics off the shelf. I just unloaded 180+ files, probably 15 of which were videos. I did not do the downloadable software, I just plug in and unload. It also auto shuts off if left idle, so you save batteries. I think I may have put new ones in once so far, and my kid uses this thing all the time. If I had to come up with a complaint, it would be that the little door for the USB port is spring loaded and small, making it a pain sometimes to get the cable in. Not a big deal, just a minor pain. I haven't tried to print out any pics yet, but I am afraid they will not be of high quality. No problem though, it's more fun to look at them on the pc, then we can weed out any bad ones. Plus my kid is 5, so even if the printout was not great, he'd be thrilled to see one of his pictures printed out. LOVE the frustration-free packaging!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2013I got this for my two year old daughter. She's not exceptionally rough but I rather be safe than sorry. It seems sturdy and she's enjoying it but the photo quality is a joke. Her itouch takes 10x better photos. Even in well lit situations this is awful. I didn't expect something super high quality but I had read reviews saying the quality wasn't that bad. I do not find that to be the case. I also wish the video and camera still settings weren't on the same switch, because she has a hard time switching it to just the middle for stills. It's okay all in all and she likes it, but I'm a bit disappointed.
