- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2012So, I was a little nervous about ording this product especially with some of the neg. reviews and the price, I mean $12 for a $90 product! hmmm, but I received the Otterbox and it was perfect! The packaging looked brand new even though it did say refurbished. Even with that, I received all of the stuff, even the screen protector. Once I figured out how to put my pad in this contraption, it seems so safe and snug in it's new home. Not worried about letting my 4 year old play with it out of my sight now. The only neg. thing that I would say about it would be that it makes the Ipad really heavy. But with the stand that it comes with, I should have no reason to just be holding it up for that long. Like some have said, you have to take the small plate off to charge, but it just slides on and off, no biggie. Great product, even greater price! Definitely a must buy.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2011Just received my otter box defender for my iPad. It went on very easily and fits great.
The good...It's solid. I have three children under 6 and I have never felt more safe letting them carry around a cell phone, laptop, or in this case a tablet. It looks and feels great
The bad...it's solid. I have the 1st generation iPad which is already heavy, and now it feels very heavy. My hand actually gets tired when I hold it up to watch a video with only one hand. It is also pretty bulky, but that is the price you pay for security and comfort knowing it will be safe. Also, the "stand" is actually a separate piece that if you leave on all the time makes it even bulkier. You also have to take it off to setup the stand, would have been nice if it was built in somehow.
All in all, I am happy with the case. I just hope that the weight and bulk of it pays off when I need it to!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2012I have an Otterbox Defender for my iPhone and it is the ultimate in protection. Got in my white/black Otterbox for my iPad 1 and it is wonderful too. Watched a video from Otter to see exactly how to put on that pesky screen protector, and got it on with just one bubble (dust particle) that drove me insane! Ended up taking the Otterbox apart and ordering a 3-pack of Plain Jane screen protectors, which came in today.
Out of the 3-pack, I ruined 2 putting them on. The bubbles were worse than the Otterbox protector. Then I had an idea, and I won't have another problem with screen protectors again!
Since the Defender completely surrounds the iPad face except for the touch screen, I simply laid the screen protector sheet on the touch screen. No pulling apart adhesive backing or anything. I left all that intact. In fact, now I have 2 layers of protection on my screen! Keeping the protector in place, I slid the Defender case together and had a great screen, no bubbles, and double the protection!
I wish I had thought of that before I bought the 3-pack of protectors, but I wanted to put on this review so others could benefit from my idea. It works great with the Defender because of its design!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2011Hi every one, i recived this item, and loved the quality, but when i wanted to install my Ipad 2 in, it does not fit well.
this is not for Ipad 2 i got this the hard way :-)
i removed 1 star because of their customer service and charing me 15% restocking fee from my payment, althought i did not have the product for more than2 days. also you are going to pay for shipment fees back to the vendor not amazon. i think i lost more than 50% of the transaction cost for nothing :-(
- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2011The option was b/w or b/w. :) So I went with b/w and it does live up to it's name as being a great all around protector of the ipad1. It's nice and thick with a rubber bumper around the edges though it is a bit of hassle to get apart to get your ipad into, so be patient when dissembling and reassembling. Also, came with a screen protector and I spent about $20 on it for the whole thing. All in all, a good investment. My ipad always goes with me in my backpack so if you don't need the heavy zero-shock protection like I do on the go, then there are lighter "sleeves" to stick you ipad into. The front cover protector has double duty: when you lay it flat, it has a the X-scissor pieces that pop as a back rest if you want to set the ipad up on the desktop.
Amazingly, and I don't understand why, the bottom plate that slips on/off does not have a slot to put the charge adapter through to charge the ipad. You have to take the whole plate off. I don't get it, so I just crossed drilled a few holes in the bottom piece and used a rasp to file out a slot that my charger adapter would go through. Otherwise, this is could be an easy piece to misplace or lose while charging on the go.
As well, since I use different jacks for sounds: headphones as well as mini-speakers, I had to drill out and widen the area of the plastic where the headphone jack goes through. Once I adapted these two things, it became more user friendly. This is why it's rated 3 stars on the design and functionality.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 1, 2013If you want to keep your iPad protected, Otterbox is the best. Makes a little bulky but not a big deal. iPads are not cheap so be smart and use the best protection on the market. Great fold out stand, and easy transfer of cover from protect to use. Otterbox makes the best cases for iPads, iPhones, etc so check out other products. They make improvements all the time, and actually respond to suggestions. No other cases compare. I once stepped on my iPad all the way, and not a scratch, bump, or anything. Another time, I accidentally dropped my iPad from the desk to the floor. Again, not a scratch, bump, nick, or problem with the iPad. Only use Otterbox for all Apple products.
