I don't care for CD players anymore, haven't for a while... I don't need a DVD screen or any of that... my last two stereos were off-brand units that both had USB and SD card slots... the first, a VR3 I bought on Amazon a couple years ago, was great but went with that car when I sold it... the next was an inexpensive Chinese unit bought on eBay that was only a radio and media player, no CD... it was the right idea, just poor execution, and it failed on me only a few months in... So I decided a tried-and-true name brand player was the answer, trouble was that not many were makin' 'em without a CD player... luckily this Sony popped up on Amazon, the price was right, the reviews were good, so the choice was easy... I AM SO GLAD THAT I GOT THIS!!! the sound quality is great, the features are many and useful, and it looks great... the amp power is about standard for most decks these days, 50x4 or 52x4, whatever, so it's plenty for typical in-door speakers like mine... there are several different EQ settings, as well as custom EQ to dial it in to your tastes... it also has a Q-factor adjustment, which changes the stereo field for even further tailoring the sound... it has both a high-pass and low-pass filter built in, which is a major plus, as well as a subwoofer level control... it has outputs for two amps... this thing has you completely covered for sound, it's great, amazing at this price point especially... it's got some cool features, a lot of which take a little learnin' curve, but the manual is clear and concise and makes it pretty simple... of course it can cycle from folder to folder and also has a random/shuffle function, those are almost a necessity with mp3 players... but another cool feature it has is called Zappin, a feature that allows you to listen to just the first few seconds of a song before it jumps to the next one... this is great if you can't remember the name or track number of a song, just go to the folder/album it's on and hit the Zappin button and you can preview the songs till you find the one you want... very cool... the slide-out tray behind the flip-down face is another great feature, you plug in your iPod or USB flash drive and tuck it away inside the unit... clean, convenient, perfect... the look of the unit is simple, sleek, and uncluttered... the round volume knob also serves as the function select button, and it feels sturdy and responsive... the rest of the feature buttons are on the left of the unit and are fairly straightforward... a couple serve more than one purpose, but again the manual makes their controls easy to learn... the display is great, it shows the folder/album as well as song and artist info... the brightness and contrast are adjustable, so any installation will provide a good view of the display... I've had this for over a month, it's workin' flawlessly, and I'm 100% pleased with this purchase... I trust Sony quality, even if it's not always the greatest they do have a proven track record and their customer service and warranty are always good... I highly recommend this unit to anybody in the market for a new deck, you won't be disappointed... I'm gonna buy another for my wife, as well as one for each of my three leisure vehicles (three classic Volkswagens!!!)

This is a good device. You can connect your Iphone, Ipod or USB drive. You can play by album, song or folder. It can also play random songs and it has something called ZAP or ZAPPING that jumps from one song to another playing a few seconds of the song.

The faceplate is a REAL pain to insert. I have been using this product for a few months and it always takes me a few minute to insert it right. Sometimes the buttoms and the volume don't respond and I have to disconnect and reconnect the faceplate. A real pain.

However, the radio is good. The sound output is powerful, is easy to use.

I am very happy with this stereo after owning it for two weeks. A great value at $85 bucks. It is certainly powerful enough to blow out my non-factory speakers, sounds very clear otherwise, has an easy-to-use user interface, charges your device, and will accept just about any device. I have a Phillips Songbird and it works very well.

The other reviews that I hear about the interface being difficult--well I have no idea how these people could not get it to work. A blind monkey could work the interface. For the install, unfortunately no quick-fix harness exists that will convert the Sony plug to my factory harness, which is going into a 2000 Tacoma. However, I got the wiring harness diagram from Crutchfield for my truck, and matched it up with the new harness diagram that came with the unit. I cut the wires out of the old harness and crimped them to the new harness one by one. It took me 30 minutes to do this, and worked perfectly. This stereo fit with my factory brackets, and I used a coin pocket that I bought from Metra to cover up the new empty space created by this smaller stereo (my old was a cassette/CD combo), which also fit with my factory brackets. In the end, it looks like a pro did it. Honestly, this is the best $85 bucks I've ever spent on my car.

Let me be more detailed about the interface as it seems people are having trouble with it:
--The main knob is what you use to select the song. You start by browsing by the artist name, select OK. Then you browse by album, select OK. Then you pick the song. It's that easy. If you want to change the song, you hit >> or <<. Duh.

--I listen to a lot of live shows, so my only gripe is that the song name for live shows is much longer than songs on albums, as it includes the date in the song name. This means you have to wait a few seconds to see the end of the song name scroll by, as all you see is the date of the show in the first 15 characters. But most people listen to much crappier music than I do, so for your albums that you bought because MTV told you to--well the song names are really short so as to play to that lower common denominator, and you won't run into this problem.

The one thing is that if the USB cord going into this device ever breaks, there is no quick fix and I bet the unit would need to be replaced. I'm gonna watch that...
