Very outdated for the technology available to kids now.

Very outdated for the technology available to kids now.
I have had this for over a year now and my kids played with this the first day they received it and that was it. I remember really enjoying an etch a sketch when I was younger you draw shake to erase and draw again however seems very outdated compared to the technology that is available for kids now. I even tried putting in the car for car rides but neither of my kids will play with it. My kids say it's broken and dirty due to the lines never completely disappear. The only thing I can draw is stairs :-(

I love the Etch A Sketch. I had one when I was young and have memories of bringing it everywhere I went. Now that my son is 2, I thought it was time for another.

First off, the actual Etch A Sketch is just like the one I had back in the 80's. I don't notice anything different. It's plastic, but it seems to hold up to whatever abuse you give it. My son is a little chunky so I worried when I saw him standing on the back of it, but it's held up to that abuse several times now. He's also thrown it on the hardwood floors a couple times with no damage.

While my son is still too small to really draw anything in particular, he does enjoy turning the knobs and he understands that it's making a line, he just can't really control where that line goes yet. I think that as he grows, I think he'll get a lot of enjoyment out of it. It's good to have non-electronic toys for him to play with sometimes.

There were three of us sisters growing up in the 50s and 60s but only my youngest sister mastered the Etch A Sketch. Seven years younger than us she'd twist those dials and turn out impossibly complicated scenes that boggled us two older girls and dumbfounded our parents. This Christmas I surprised her, now age 50, with a new Etch A Sketch; she'd not touched one since childhood. Everyone hooted, but she quietly got down to work spinning the dials. In just a few moments she'd 'drawn' a scene from a women's section in a department store. Dresses, blouses, skirts, and pants hung from hangers and mannequins displayed elaborate hats with feathers. Etch A Sketch still has the power to work magic for those with the right talent. Or maybe I should say 'left' talent as my sister is left-handed.

FUN-FUN-FUN! The BEST toy ever!!! I purchased this classic Etch A Sketch for my favorite niece's 5-yr old boy for his birthday gift. My 2 sons had one years ago & certainly enjoyed drawing and designing many, many times. Also I recall drawing as well as my husband (an architect & drew house plans often to show our sons). The more practice, the more you remember how to "draw". Actually I gifted the 7-yr old brother a travel Etch a Sketch last year for his birthday, so both brothers have their own to entertain them. I highly recommend this for children... can easily take along when traveling in the car... share with friends, Mom & Dad, Grandpa & Grandma, cousins, friends & even me, great-aunt, Sarah Helene in Minneapolis, MN

All the adults at the birthday party for the 2 years old played with the Etch A Sketch! The honoree was playing with lots of gifts, so didn't get much upset! He does like to draw, and this will let him draw all he wants without leaving pieces of paper all over the house
and missing pencils. He did get to use it when he opened it, and was interested in using knobs to draw, instead of a pencil. I recommend that it be given by itself, instead of 20 or so other gifts!

I definitely recommend it, especially for kids who like to draw.

I purchased this for my son's 7th birthday. He had seen it on Toy Story and The Little Rascals and requested it. I had one as a child, and I had happy memories of spending lots of time drawing on my Etch A Sketch. When he opened it, it seemed smaller and lighter than I remembered. (That may be due to the perspective of age.) I also noticed that the drawing line on the screen was much thinner and lighter in color than I remembered. I thought it was much darker and heavier. However, my son seems pleased with it. Both he and his younger brother have played with it a lot over the course of the past month. They even took it on vacation with us. Other than the things I've already mentioned, my only real complaint is that the screen quickly developed blemishes which cannot be cleaned off. They look like thin smudges, and they do not feel like scratches. I have tried to clean them with a soft cloth and plain water and also baby wipes. I was afraid to use anything with chemicals or abrasive ingredients which may damage the screen. However, the marks remain. Oh, well. As long as the kids aren't concerned about it, why should I be?

Great toy, my kids love it. We take it on car rides to keep the younger boys entertained. Works just like the one that I had when I was a kid.

I myself rely heavily on reviews when it comes to deciding whether or not I’m going to purchase something, so my reviews are completely honest. If my opinion of the quality of this product changes, I will update my review accordingly.

My high-school age daughter ordered this Etch A Sketch with money she earned working in my garden, to replace an Etch-A-Sketch she broke. She does Etch-A-Sketch art - doing very detailed pictures and photographing them. While the shipping and packaging from Amazon LLC was fine, the product arrived broken - there is a section in the middle of the screen where, where the line simply will not go straight - it curves, then continues straight. While this would probably be fine for a child who is just doodling, this situation is untenable for a young artist who needs the lines straight. Unfortunately, due to sundry reasons involving rural post office hours and our work hours, we picked it up from the post office late, and due to lack of internet at our rural home and over-busy lives, we were not able to return this product within their 30 day limit (we messed up). Now Amazon policy will not allow us to return it. My daughter is stuck with a product useless to her (she has not used it since she opened it in the car as I drove away from the post office), and is unlikely to order another at this point. She has returned to sketch pads and pencils.
