- Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2012Product Packaging: Standard PackagingVerified PurchaseI bought this device to replace a Bose Wave radio/CD, which I regretfully had to sell when I moved to the USA from a country with 240V electricity. If you've ever heard a Wave you'll know any replacement has big boots to fill, but I just couldn't justify the price tag this time around.
Initially passed over the iHome because I don't need to connect my radio with external toys. However its overall feature set won me over and am I ever glad.
It's primary purpose is as a radio alarm clock in my bedroom, and lives on a tall set of drawers opposite my bed rather than on bedside unit. This means the big clock display is a real advantage. The clock is manually dimmable in about eight steps. Would be nice if it dimmed automatically depending on ambient light, but I have found a level which is low enough for night-time, while still being easy to see during the day. If no alarms are set, the date is visible in a line below the time. If an alarm is set, the time it will next come on is displayed below the time. The clock can be set to show time in 12- or 24-hour format.
There are two alarms, and each can be set according to time, and type of alarm; radio, buzzer or external device. Each can also be set to come on every day, only weekdays, or only weekend days. This is great if you get up Monday to Friday at the same time, just set the alarm once and forget it. With all these options, setting the alarms involves quite a bit of button pushing, so you'll need the manual handy. When the radio alarm comes on, its volume ramps up gently - nice touch.
Radio reception is good, and there are six presets for each of your favorite AM and FM stations. The unit has a permanently-attached wire aerial for FM, and a plug-in (and rather large) external aerial for AM. Hopefully a future iteration will have RDS, as the display could easily accommodate this.
Sound quality is really impressive, and I was blown away by just how good it is. It compares very favorably with the much more expensive radio I previously owned. You can adjust bass and treble to suit your listening preferences.
The remote control is clearly laid out and works just fine. Other features such as Nap, Sleep, Snooze and external toy dock I never use so won't comment further.
All in all I'm very impressed with the iHome. If they added an auto-dimming display and RDS it would probably cost an extra $50 but still be good value.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2012Product Packaging: Standard PackagingVerified PurchaseI did NOT see anywhere in the info that this thing would not work with my iPhone4... I can't even get it to work with my iPhone3... when I say "work" I mean that I keep getting the message on both of my phones that "this accessory is not supported by iPhone". I can charge my phones but can not get my music to come though the speakers on the clock radio. I bought 2 so I could give one to my partner for Christmas. I set mine up and it didn't work as I was lead to believe it would. So I contacted the maker and was told to ship it to them and they would fix it. So before I did that I opened the other one to check it and WOW to my amazement it worked, the music on my phone came through the speakers... so I wrapped mine up, shipped it, it took several weeks to get it back and it "worked" for about 10 minutes... the next time I tried it nothing!!!! So I contacted the company again and have yet to get a reply to my email... It's a nice machine but don't buy it if you want to have your music available... for that it's a piece of CRAP!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2012Reasonable sound quality, though a bit lower than I would like. I set it to about the 30 level for fear of sound distortion or blowing the speakers. Would like it louder for our bed room. Apps for my ipod touch works well and makes setting the alarm easy. Feature rich with dual alarms, wake to radio, ipod, buzzer. Build quality is decent with light up buttons on top of the unit for making adjustments to the clock at night. Fairly easy to set time, but struggled a bit after we fell back for fall. Forgot that the time adjust button is on the back of the unit and almost had to pull the manual out. My wife and I feel the unit is too bright, even on the lowest brightness setting. Part of the issue with this is the light up buttons that are on the top. My wife has to turn off the brightness completely and if she wants to look at the time has to cycle through seven brightness settings to turn off the unit again requiring around eight button presses during the night. Annoying! A quick hold down to light it up the display briefly might be nice if people don't want the display on at all. I might compare this to an indiglo feature on a TIMEX watch if it was available.
To make the unit better, in my opinion, iHome needs to adjust a few things. First, allow users more flexibility with setting the display brightness, perhaps different color options, and be able to shut off the light up buttons completely on the top of the unit. The white light up numbers look nice, but the standard red numbers on other clocks are going to be darker at night and I might actually prefer a nice blue color. Also, it would be great if they could get a bit more sound from the unit with more volume and also protection against the possibility of blowing the speakers. Lastly, though this clock looks nice, it would be awesome if iHome could design some higher end alarms such as units with full wood enclosures such as light or dark colored wood. Maybe a bamboo option for environmental purposes??? After I purchased the clock my wife was disappointed in how it looked with our nice bedroom furniture. I found a few other clocks online that looked nice, but were missing the features that I wanted. One clock option in particular is not a brand I am familiar with and the customer service is lacking or not there for it.
I can't comment on any problem with the unit other that the little hand held remote not working properly at times. Don't use it enough to care about it that much. I can't commend on iHome's customer service, but I think it is there.
