My 7 year old son received this from Santa Claus for Christmas, and let me say, he couldn't have been happier. It is a rather extensive build though....he sure loved watching me make it! LOL....my thumbs are still hurting! Luckily he has an older brother who is a LEGO maniac and very skilled at building complex kits like this.
It's a great toy, and provides hours of play. I would say that Mega Bloks still needs to improve the quality of their bricks...they don't have the same feel as the LEGO...but with the HALO line, they've figured out a great vertical. Halo has become the new army of today's generations. Playing with my son reminded me of years past, of my own playtime with my army men
The instructions are hard sometimes to follow, and some of the pieces don't work right...but other than that...you can't go wrong....I know my son will continue to collect these awesome toys

Missing parts take away some of the fun
I have to say that this was a well thought out build but it needed just a few finishing touches and some more Quality Control to rate higher. The finished product is well worth it but the journey to get there was mired in frustration. First, be sure to count ALL pieces or at least make a real effort to guesstimate the contents as they are not bagged like a Lego set. The contents are randomly distributed in bags that have no tie to any of the building steps. I am sure this is to save resources on the manufacturer end but it makes for an extremely bad customer experience. Note any missing pieces that may be critical to your build as Megabloks has a brick request that can be used (I have LOTS on order for this kit.) This took a couple of hours to sort out and detracted from the overall experience. I also hack sawed some 1x6 flat bricks in half because there were NO 1x3 at all. This action is not advised but I found it necessary. Second, pay really good attention to the building steps as there are a few mistakes (at least two that we found) that can delay your build while trying to sort it out. My eleven year old had a few moments of frustration with this. There are also color schemes that overlap, so adding two different green bricks in a building step may not be very apparent since the line in the diagram is not very clear for distinguishing one piece from another. Third and last I want to point out that this kit is not comparable to Lego. It has its own qualities, and just like its competitor they vary. The pieces snap together more tightly than we were accustomed to, so this makes it more solid as would be expected for a build this big. I was even tempted to drop it to note the results but was not brave enough. The color scheme is also unique but true to its design and makes for a one of a kind build. We have some blue/white/black bricks that were used from our Lego collection due to the missing pieces with no issues except for color matching. Some of the brick design is also specific to this model and may not necessarily be useful for other builds. I would have rated it 5 Stars if it were not for the first two issues I pointed out. I added some pictures to show the result and the missing pieces experience. If we did not have hundreds of spare Lego parts to borrow from we would not have been able to complete this kit. Altogether the final result is what matters. My son loves this and we spent quality time (and a few extra hours) building this together.
