Long story short, I got rid of the cheap instrument cable that I was using, bought this one and as soon as I plugged it in, the humming noise stopped. Can't get any better than that....
No static, no sound degradation. I bought it to keep with my acoustic/electric guitar case since it coils up nice and small.
The cable wasn't expensive. Still, the disappointment of low quality will last longer than the joy of low price. Now instead of playing music I'm writing an Amazon review and shopping for a new cable.
All I ever did with the cable was plug it in to my guitar, then unplug it and hang it on a hook. I definitely wouldn't use this type of cable on stage, it's not robust enough to handle being coiled and uncoiled and walked on. I can handle it failing in the studio but not in front of a live audience.
