- Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2011Even after having downloaded three of the games in this series from Nintendo's Wii Ware service, I could not have been happier giving up the asking price of 40 bucks for this game. Anyone who has played any of the Bit.Trip series should know how awesome these games already are, and to have them all on one disc is a great thing to have in itself. However unlike most developers, Gaijin Games did NOT do the cash-in maneuver and simply slap six ROMs onto a disc. Oh no. They have given those who have even been loyal fans of the series like me plenty of extras to make it worth my while to pay for three of these games all over again.
I will not be reviewing these games individually, so if you are not familiar with any of the Bit.Trip games (Beat, Core, Void, Runner, Fate, and Flux), I recommend you look up each of those individual games to get the gist of what Bit.Trip games are. What I am going to cover is what all you get in this wonderful Bit.Trip anthology. First is what is most important to many gamers of today which is online leader boards. Now you can instantly see how your scores stack up to everyone else playing this game around the world. I could care less about this, but it's the popular thing to do. Second, each game now has an easy and hard difficulty setting along with the normal difficulty level which is identical to the Wii Ware releases of these games. On easy, Beat, Core, Void, Fate, and Flux are more forgiving of mistakes. In Runner's case, all the gold bars have been removed as well as the bonus stages. Of course on hard Beat, Core, Void, Fate, and Flux are even more unforgiving of mistakes. Again in Runner's case, you must collect all the gold bars or else you immediately go back to the beginning of the stage as soon as you miss just one gold bar as if you had fallen or hit something. In the bonus stages, your attempt to collect gold will end if you miss a one gold bar. Pretty much it forces you to do a perfect run in the main game and cuts you short on bonus points by not being able to collect more gold after you miss one bar. Thirdly each games has an additional 20 challenges. These challenges are for those who have completed these games as they are very hard. Beginners should stay away from these because they will get schooled very quickly. Fourth and my personal favorite is that they have added a wealth of unlockable content in the form of art, video, audio, and letters. The letters are the easiest to unlock and they contain the meaning of the story of each game that escapes most fans of the series. I have not unlocked any of the audio tracks, but I'm guessing that there will be some fan made stuff that Gaijin Games talked about put in there. Videos so far seems to be commercial trailers and such. Art is well......art. If online leader boards aren't a good incentive to get high scores and perfects, this is a great one. Lastly there is a music CD that comes with the game that contains the entire Bit.Trip series official soundtrack. Sticking this CD into a well adjusted audio system will blow your socks off. Though the official remixes of Runner's music were always a little bit disappointing to me, the music of the other games are great. Just as a side note if you want to hear a great remix of Runner's soundtrack, go to You Tube and type in "Hooked On Bit.Trip Runner".
And that's it. As you can see Gaijin Games has crammed more value into this retail release of all of their instant classics than anyone would have ever expected. Buy this game. Support this developer. They make fantastic games. Help them to make more games that set standards for their respective genres.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2012Bit Trip complete is a jolly good time, especially now that it only costs $20. Well worth this price. My children had been playing the demos, and want to buy them from wiiware, but I told them to wait. When the game finally hit 20$ we purchased it immediately. The games are fun and challenging, especially the new challenge levels they have added. We are talking about a half hour a challenge on some of the games. The bit trip games give you endless lives, and start over quickly if you die, thus egging you into playing, "just one more time, I know I can do it" over and over again. They suck you in and don't let go. Bit trip complete is a great om-age to 8 bit games, and at this price will be pennies per hour of entertainment. buy it.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2014I love that Nintendo has been encouraging games like the Bit.Trip and Art Style sagas, that take a retro art style and mix it up with simple to learn but crazy tough to master gameplay. It's hard to sell these games, as they must be seen and played to be properly appreciated, but for $9.99 this collection is an absolute steal. I would pay that price for RUNNER alone. It's probably my favorite, a non-stop platformer where you jump, duck, kick, and spring to the music. You'll die a lot, but will keep coming back for more because it's that addicting, and the feeling of getting it right is so cathartic. FATE is another favorite and might actually beat out RUNNER - it's a literal on-rails shooter where you must navigate bullet-hell mazes with the Wii Remote and nunchuk. It's seriously tough but an absolute joy for shmup/bullet hell lovers like myself. VOID is an abstract dodging/collecting game where you shift sizes. It is hard to describe and even harder to play, but will find its audience in the masochists out there. CORE is probably the most abstract, where you will be hitting the d-pad to deflect incoming projectiles. BEAT and the exclusive FLUX are similar in gameplay, but FLUX feels like the ultimate realization of th e simpler BEAT, with more room for its soundtrack thanks to the disc format. Speaking of the soundtrack, this game includes a flippin' CD! Add that to all the cool special features the developers included on this disc, as well as a ton of replayability, and you have one of the best raw gaming deals on the market. Just check out a few YouTube videos to see if the games are for you. If not, the similarly retro and slickly designed Art Style games on WiiWare are fantastic as well.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 22, 2011I can't blame people for not using Nintendo's WiiWare to download games. It's hard to find games, demos are almost nonexistent, and downloads are slow as molasses. But if you were diligent enough to wade through the shovelware, you might have come across one of the six Bit.Trip games. They've been collected onto one disc and given a ton of bonus modes, difficulty levels, unlockable developer's notes and art, plus an hour-long soundtrack on CD. At a budget price, this is one of the best Wii games I've ever played. It picks up on the best aspects of the Wii, namely intuitive controls (whether you use the Wiimote, Classic Controller, or even Zapper) and stellar multiplayer.
They're all music based retro looking games. They focus on having a simple, intuitive input and reacting to rhythm. Some are like a musical version of pong, an on the rails shooter, or a platformer. But even as different as the play styles are, the music and graphics tie all of the games together beautifully.
Everything about this series makes it seem deceptively simple--the graphics, the controls, the chiptunes. After picking up the controller, it's clear how much effort Gaijin put into each game to make it easy to pick up but difficult (yet still fun) to master.
The WiiWare versions could be brutally hard, but this release added an easy mode and I think that alone makes it worth picking this up on disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Collection of games in one
This game is amazing, it is full of wonderful games relying on different style of games from pong all the way to running and back. The story of one, Commander Video, as he goes through life experiencing new things in every game. There is not much story, but the game has a style that most games dont have now adays, it is full of 8 bit chip tunes and atari/nes style gameplay.
