    Good toy!

    Good toy!
It's a great toy! So helpful with learning letters. The pictures of the words are very helpful to have in there! Our board came with a weird letter "B" that doesn't fill the space entirely. Just moves around because it's too small, plus it makes the sensor sensitive so it keeps repeating the B. The letters wear out pretty fast, but that's to be expected. It also doesn't say one letter/word at a time if you accidentally hover over another letter with your hand when you put a letter down.

I was worried about buying this puzzle after reading other reviews, but we are very happy with the purchase. True, the puzzle is not a PERFECT tool for learning the alphabet, but it is still a good way to become familiar with the letters. Most of the concerns shared in other reviews are based on the fact that the puzzle spaces are light sensitive, but we really didn't find this to be a problem. For example, if a piece is missing, every time we turn the light on or off, the puzzle announces "G is for Guitar" (or whatever piece is missing). That was easily fixable, though, by covering the puzzle so that the light wouldn't hit it (until we found the missing piece). Another concern shared in other reviews is that the spaces are not letter specific. For example, if you try putting the G in the space for the A, the piece will not fit, but the puzzle still announces "A is for Apple" since the light sensor is covered. So, this may cause some confusion. However, I just work with my daughter while she does the puzzle. If she tries to put the G in the space for the A, the puzzle says "A is for Apple". I tell her, "Oh, it looks like that piece doesn't fit there, and the puzzle is telling us we're looking for the A." Overall, this is a fun learning tool & works just fine.

I bought 2 of these as gifts for two children who just turned 1 year old. I had gotten my own child a magnetic board on her first birthday. But, they don't make that kind anymore. I loved the fact that the holes for the letters are the same shape as the letters (that's what I was looking for). And the letters are thick wood that will last. They are also raised a bit to be easy to pick up from the board. The bonus in this letter board is that it speaks to the child. It says the letter name and an object that has that letter sound. My friend and her sister (had their babies within same month) were both happy with their child's gift. If I need another one for someone else... I know where to get it! <3 When my kids were small, I would sit with them and take out one letter and say its name. Then they put it back and repeated the name. It was a game we played. Eventually, we took out 2, 3, etc. She knew her letters before going to school. Play with your child, it's more effective.

This was the best purchase ever! My two year old son now knows his ABCs' . After a week of playing with this he can recognize a lot of letters. I read complaints about it saying the wrong letter when you put in different place. I just sat down and worked it with my child the first time. When he tried to put the Q in the O place, I just said " see it doesn't fit ,the puzzle says this is the O spot and you have the Q." Then I point out the difference in all the ones he was trying to put in wrong places. Can't complain for the price. My child was helping an older kid work it the other day. She would ask where does this go? And my son said "B ball." My mom asked him if he wanted a jelly bean yesterday and he said "J" . I'm one proud mom and suggest anyone with a child should buy this.

It’s a really great product! Looks and feels really sturdy. My only complaint like others is that the letters can be placed over any of the other letters and it will play the sound. Each letter isn’t specifically designed to go off if it’s in the right spot. Also the cut outs of the letters are a bit hard to decipher for a toddler. The A and the V for example. Other then that I am really happy as we had one that had no sound, and I was the one who read it out loud. So saves me from having to say anything.

I wanted to get some letters for my granddaughter as she is showing interest in the words in her books (she is 1) and will point to the words as they read to her. My daughter really prefers wood toys so I snapped screenshots of the ones I found to see which she would prefer. Granddaughter choose this one. I honestly didn’t even know it had sound when I ordered it. She was super happy when it arrived and had to call namaw and show me. It is perfect and it also says the letter “w is for watermellon” etc. so that is a bonus.

This puzzle is AMAZING! I was worried because the letters sre smaller and I thought it would be too much for my 20 month old. The color of the actual letters does not match the color of the same letter on the board! This makes it to where they have to match the letter, and not just a color or design! We got it in the mail and she took right to it! She loves playing with this puzzle! She could do the entire thing and doesn't get bored with it! Since it does have so many pieces, we put it up and let her ask for it. It's very easy to lose a piece, especially if you were to just leave it out! I would definitely recommend this product, and we can not wait to order the numbers puzzle!

I bought this puzzle for my nephew who just turned 3. I had previously bought one for my 1 year old daughter. She loves it so much and has actually learned her letters from this puzzle and that is why I bought one for her cousin. It is a great puzzle. Some of the pictures behind the letter are an odd choice for little kids, but they don't care. And if you have dogs, be careful because they chew up easily due to the wood-type material they are made out of. Our "T" is all chewed up now, but still works. I love Melissa and Doug toys. My next purchase will be the "Numbers" puzzle because my daughter is now starting take interest in counting. Anyway, if you have a young child who is old enough to start learning the alphabet, this is a great puzzle!

My child loves it. I wish the font was different. The sound is triggered by covering the pinhole. Sometimes my shadow cast on the puzzle trigger the sound. So you have to do it in the “right” lighting.

Exactly what I was expectant hoping for. My daughter loves puzzles and so this was great. She now recognizes letters even before putting them in the right spot. When the letters are put in it says each letter and a word that the letter starts with (a is for Apple). It's light sensitive so it will start talking to you if all the letters are not in its spot and the room gets darker.
