My wife and I love to wack zombies around in the House of the Dead at the Works. We've played them all. When I found out this was available for the wii, I thought I'd give it a try. I read the reviews and they were pretty good. For those that rate it lower than a 5 for graphics or voice sych, I guess they never played this in the arcade. I also don't think they get that the object is to kill zombies and the graphics is secondary. Eventhough this is a wii game which typically dumbs down the graphics, this game's graphics are exactly like the arcade games. You also need to get the pistols that hold the wii-mote to enjoy this.
House of the Dead 2: When we first popped it in and started, my jaw absolutely hit the floor. We're playing on a 32" conventional screen and the joys of playing this like in the arcade immediately hit. It is exactly like the arcade experience. And yes, you get those nice pauses between story lines to take a sip of your favorite beverage. If you like it in the arcade, don't worry. You'll love it in your home. The only thing is that you get limited credits, but they increase after you die each time you make it further in the game. Once you run out, you do have to start over, but each time, you get better and better. Also, you can choose different tactics that may lead you down different paths. I understand that at some point, you get infinite credits. I haven't gotten there yet. Man this is fun!!
House of the Dead 3: I've only played this a little, but the graphics are much more detailed and the weapon (a shotgun) sounds more like a real gun. It's a bit easier so far than 2 since you're using a shotgun instead of a pistol, but it still has some challenges. Again, it's just like being in the arcade.
Overall, this is the best and most fun game I've ever owned. If you're on the fence because of some of the ratings, but are familiar with the game at all, don't hesitate to buy this. You'll love it. Also, while it's rated mature, it's really OK for kids that can handle the gore. You can make the blood green instead of red if the red is too much. Remember, it's just zombies.
It's also just like the arcade version - complete with crappy graphics (so bad in HOD 2 that it's funny) and fairly repetative gameplay, so I can see getting a bit tired of it in a few more weeks. But, that's ok and expected given the arcade game. Still definitely worth the money and we're all looking forward to HOD: Overkill.
As a side note, it's also not a particularly good party game though since it's 2 player and the games last pretty long.
Now the game itself I would rate about 3/5 it's only okay. It is your typical arcade game you can play over and over again without wasting tons of money so in that regard it's amazing. However, it does become frustrating how easily you can die and that you have to start over at the end of your lives. Overall I don't regret buying it, it's especially fun with the added gun controllers, but wish it had a few more options.
