- Reviewed in the United States on August 19, 2011I purchased the Panasonic DY-WL10 Wireless Adapter to make use of Vieira Cast on my Panasonic TV, model TC-P50G25. This is a 2010 model TV.
My network is FIOS with an Actiontec MI424WR router. Although my throughput is 35MBps, the router Verizon provides is G, not N, so wireless speed is more in the 20-25MBps range.
My TV, hence this adapter, is about 45 feet away from the router, with three standard walls between them.
With this configuration, my streaming has been fine. I have streamed some movies off Amazon Instant Video and a couple of other channels. I have not have any issues of dropping out, buffering delays, etc.
The adapter is simple to plug in, just pop it into one of the TV's USB ports. You can't really see it on this TV model, except from the far left, since the USB ports are on the side and recessed behind the display panel.
Setup of the DY-WL10 was fairly simple, about the same as setting up any other wireless device on a home network. Obviously, your set up steps will vary slightly depending on if you use WPA, WEP, MAC address filtering, etc. But in general, it amounts to pressing the Menu key on your TV remote, going to Setup on the menu, and selecting your Network Setting options. If you are entering a security key for your network, like most non-PC devices, the interface to enter the key on this TV is a bit tedious, but that's the TV, not the adapter, so....
All in all, I realy like the adapter. As far as price, ease of use, and functionality....price - just fair. Like many others I feel Panasonic should have embedded the adapter in the TV. Ease of set up will depend on your skill-set. IT geeks will have no trouble at all, and its also a yawn for most people who have setup other wireless devices on their home network. If you aren't up on wireless technology, or someone else customized your network settings on your network, you may have to take your time and look up some help on-line. But in general, it's a fairly simple set up. Functionality is great! From my experience thus far, loading of streaming video is brisk (seconds not minutes), and once a video is loaded, I haven't had any buffering hiccups or drop out.
Viera Cast has a good number of applications and a few free streaming channels and this adapter lets you enjoy those. Of course, if you have NetFlix or Amazon Prime (Amazon Instant Video), being able to watch that content on demand speaks for itself.
Ideally, if I could I would hard wire the TV to the router on an Ethernet cable, if only to make use of my full download speed on FIOS, but for me, the routing of the cable was too much of a pain due to the layout.
So if you can't run a cable, and want to make use of the Viera Cast content, this adapter does the trick!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2010Okay, my "credentials": I have purchased this unit, a Panasonic DMP-BD85K WiFi Enabled Blu-Ray Disc Player (Black), a Panasonic VIERA TC-P42G25 42-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV, and a Netgear WNDA3100v2 usb WiFi adapter for use on my DishNetwork DVR. I have a NETGEAR RangeMax Wireless-N300 Gigabit Router with USB WNR3500L and a 6Mb down DSL connection. I mention the Netgear WiFi adapter because that is the only one that can be used instead of this Panasonic adapter (version 2 only). I am a network techie and, because I didn't have anything better to do that night, tried a bunch of configurations. Here are some of my conclusions and observations: 1) The Panasonic gets stronger and more stable connections than the Netgear. 2) You have very little control over the adapter from the TV or the Bluray. [Edit: this is a dual band device and you can connect at 2.4 OR 5 if you have a dual band router]. You cannot access any of the properties of either adapter as you could if it was connected to a PC. 3) the price of both adapters are pretty much the same and assuring that you are getting the version 2 of the Netgear is pretty iffy unless you pay higher prices at a local electronics store and can directly look at the adapater. The Netgear is much positional which I found to be a negative because it is easy to be moved by roving cats, messing with wiring, etc. The Panny adapter seemed to pick up the max signal in almost all positions. 4) Why do reviewers downgrade the adapter's rating just because the tv or bluray needs it for WiFi. Shouldn't that downgrade be attributed to the TV or Bluray player rating? 5) Differences in PQ or stuttering could just as easily be blamed on a slow broadband connection. Your available bandwidth from your ISP is really the rate limiting step, not the Wireless N speed (even with a mediocre WiFi N connection). Bottom line - the device works well despite the negative comments that have more to do with availability, perceived high price compared to other USB WiFi adapters (probably true for G but not N), lack of choice (so?) and the fact that it was not built into the TV or Bluray that was originally purchased.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2011Lets see, it supports both 2.4 and 5 ghz which is awesome. It sometimes has trouble connecting to the 5ghz network right away when just turning on the player and sometimes doesn't see the 5 ghz network at all but I'm pretty sure that's due to range from the router than the adapter itself. It never has a problem with the 2.4ghz network. It works great, we watch netflix and youtube and hd happieness ensues. Never thought youtube could look so good. So yeah simple plug and play adapter, a little weird that the usb plug is in the front of the player but it doesn't really stick out that far or look that weird. I had used other ethernet bridges before I bought this to try and save money but that turned out to be a waste of time and money. This works much better than those, not to mention with a ethernet adapter even if it is a 'n' adapter you end up downgrading the 300mbps to 100mbps with this little guy you keep the 300mbps which does matter a lot when streaming hd content.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pansonic Lan Adaptor DYWL10
The first thing that is important to know is that this same unit is up to twice the cost at retailers in Ontario. It works great, picks up a strong signal from my router 30 feet away. It is small and efficient at the same time. Great product and at a great price!

The seller provided excellent services, the Adapter work perfect, but Panasonic Apps are terrible, even two of them have been shut down, so it is workless.
